Ignore the prices there, you figure if the Blacktops stay at $499, the basses will also be $499, and the Squier V will probably $349, and the Mustang $299. How about that.

The Mustang looks great - just recently I was reading someone say that that's what Bronco should've been. I wonder if more colors will be available and if the price will be in the VM/CV ballpark. I don't need one personally, but I'd recommend one to anyone starting out (what a cool 1st bass for a kid!).

Please excuse the ignorance...what is a "blacktop"? Does that mean something or is it just a name like Mustang, Bronco, etc? Regardless, that silver Blacktop P is giving me fever!

Fender's Blacktop series of guitars were their standard guitars (strat & tele) loaded with humbuckers. They decided to finally put out basses in the same line.

Black or 'White Chrome Pearl'... Hmm... Neither color excites me at all (especially since I already have a black P and just got my CFM FAS P), but the Blacktop P still piques my interest... I hope they don't go with crappy pups and electronics on it...

You know... If I had known about the VM Jazz V back in March, I would have gone with that instead of the four string VM 70s Jazz... I might have to put that up on the for sale block, and buy the Jazz V when they finally hit the stores here. It might be a hard sale though... Someone in my area has had a VM 70s on CL for a few weeks at $200 with no takers.
