Was hoping there could be something to be gleaned from that thread- didn't read all the way thru it, tho.
Seems that if there are not enough windings on the post (and that the chrome on the post is hard/slippery), that the strings don't grab it well, putting too much strain on the string at the edge of the slot. I always have at least 3 full wraps, usually 4, and more on the smaller strings, but don't have a MM, tho.
There's another method of winding that may help- after the string comes out of the tuner slot, go one wrap over (up), then the rest of the wraps to the bottom of the post- that one wrap has to cross over and locks them better.
One of the threads or comments mentioned that some of the posts (different models/years?) were sharper at the edge of the slot than others, some were a little more rounded.
