Hi, I am from North Carolina and a softmore in high school. I currently own a sam shen sb-200 rogeri willow model and i have bel cantos on them. But they seem to be to low tension for my taste, and the e and a especially seem a little bit "wably" under the bow. I am currently working on dragonetti, and i am in the youth orchestra, regional orchestra, and all state orchestra, and attend summer programs, so i need a string that does mostly orchestral work and solo work. Does anyone have any good thoughts? i have been told that dominants, or helicores orchestras would be good.

Dominants bow fairly well. High tension and I've always felt the work best with medium-med low action. They have a similar feel but warmer tone than spirocores orchestras. Not really "gut like," but definately a darker string. Totally worth a shot, imo
I like them a lot of playing jazz but they do well all around and I think they were designed for the bow. They might be my favorite string to date although i'm currently using Eudoxas and have mixed feeling about them.

One of the best sounding orchestral bassists I heard had the Permanents G and D and Spyro mittels A and E with moderately low action. For the solo work he just tuned them one step up if needed. Should'a love high tension...
