New strings for a Tribute L-2500?

Well, my personal faves are Ken Smith RockMaster Mediums. I string the B through the bridge and the rest through the body. Didn't have an issue with my old L-1505.

They start pretty bright, but mellow very well, retaining their punch!

I'm sure if you go to a local grocery store, you can find a little container pretty cheap.

The bass may have been sitting on the shelf for a while, hence the dead strings. SIT's are what come on it and they're pretty dang good. I use DR strings exclusively and love those on my USA L2500. They also last forever! Whatever you do, don't get GHS Boomers. The silk winding ends up sitting on the nut if you string through the body.

I use DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams on my G&L L2500 and I love them. I have not come across a set of strings I like better.
Ernie Ball, Rotosounds, Smiths. None of them compare to the tone I get with the Fat Beams.
Somtimes I use the DR Hi Beams if I cannot find a 5 string set of Fat Beams.

Honestly there is not a big, big difference, the Hi Beams are a bit brighter. I prefer the Marcus Signature Fat Beams though. Just like the response they give. And they seem to have a certain boom to them that the others don't. The Lo Riders are similar as well. It can sometimes be tough to find the Fat Beam 5 string sets. I run into that a lot. Where the Hi Beams or the Lo Riders seem to be in stock more in 5 String sets.

You can use those, but you'll have to string the B and E through the bridge. Trevorus here at talkbass does it that way I saw his tribute L2500 over the weekend. They are nice basses. If you want to string all the strings through the body you'll need the superlong D'addarios.

Mah, dont really care if its body or not, i was just worried about the bridge ripping out of the body Doubt itll happen with the low b and e only, since they have least tension^^ But those strings should sound good right =)?

yes, I use D'addarios on both my G&L's and I think they sound great.

I liked F-Bass strings best for that bass when I had one....I think they are made by LaBella but are branded as F-bass and avail from their site. They have a contact core so you might have to adjust the bass. I liked them because they had the best tension out of any I tried IMO (fairly low to med tension) so easy and comfy to play for me.

I use a pvc pipe "string cleaning tube" ala this link. It works AWESOME. I have used the same 3 sets of strings for about 8-9 months now , rotating sets and I always get that new string sound on the cheap. Can't recommend these enough!

I've found two sets that can be strung "through the body" on the L-2500 with no problem.
1. Rotosound RS665EL
2. S.I.T. NR545125XL
These are $29.95 and $18.83 respectively through JustStrings.com

There may be others that fit when routing through the body, but these are the two sets that I've found that really sound good on this bass. Oh yeah, the .130 gauge B string on the RotoSounds is almost impossible to set the intonation on. The original bridge screw isn't long enough. The S.I.T's though, with a .125 B string, will intonate perfectly.
