New SUNN 200S anyone?

Wondering if anyone has had the chance to try the new SUNN 200S? It’s pricey for sure but cool someone is bringing this legendary design back.

Is it a true faithful recreation of the original design?

As much as like tube stuff of all sort, I can’t quite see the point of a new 200s.

If you need one for special rock purposes (S.R.P) find a used one for cheaper that’s already been refreshed (as needed).

Good luck finding one and good luck if you need spare parts in case of failure.

My guess is that new amp will have long time support with the newest class D technology. The Sunn tone in a lighter package.

I'm interested to compare a new one to my 1969, but my local dealer keeps being told they'll get one next month. Since last fall.

It’s a 48 lb. 60 watt Class A/B tube amp for $3500, made by a company with what is reputedly a 10 year license to the brand name, so your guess may prove to be a bit off in one way or another…

I know the vintage SUNN units are legendary for their ultra linear clean headroom.

Going by each (current) company's reputation I'd go with the V4B.

The Sunn is my favorite and none are anything less than amazing.

If I needed/ wanted a tube amp I’m having my buddy Jerry build it, then I have support for as long as we are alive. I know that the level of detail and care would be obsessive and I’d end up with something I’d want to keep forever.

The other option would be a Hiwatt or Hiwatt inspired amp… enter the Science Mother and I’d probably use it for guitar more lol.

If it had to be a Sunn based amp it’s the Science Totality. Again… I’d probably use it for guitar more.

Thing is - I’m not nor have I ever been a tube guy for bass. So I guess I shouldn’t even be posting here.

I’m buying another bass over a $3500 tube amp any day though… that’s a whole ass Bongo or most of the way on another custom Serek.

Now I’m over on the science page looking for 200 watt “guitar” amps so I’m not a hypocrite in my earlier writings

If I get another tube head (new production) it’s between the SUNN, Ampeg V4B, Orange AD200.

So that would be a 60 watter (new Sunn 200S), a 100 watter (Ampeg V4B), or a 200 watter (Orange AD200).

What's interesting about the AD200 is that Orange beefed up the output transformer in the new version. It seems some players complained about the previous version (the Mk3) losing low end at higher volumes (I recall @Wasnex talking about that issue). Supposedly Orange beefed up OT in the new version to remedy that, but I have yet to hear any "real world" reviews of the new version by actual players.
