New: Tech 21 VT-500 Bass Amp

If they would rush to meet this newer market with a version 2 IMO this product will have longevity. Of course all this is my speculation, and right now there are the 800 watters at a higher price point.

Maybe after all the listening they did before building it they gave it a real 500 watts that kicks like a real thing. Or will my 250w Trace with a VT pedal outrun it?

I think that for 99% of us (on TB) that 500 watts is plenty of power, IMO. Tech21 is most likely not interested in having the same king of issues that Peavey, for example, is going through, perhaps.

Well, I hope it is the real deal. It gets OLD OLD OLD with all the specs flying around that virtually have no meaning

I think you are correct - went from a huge power amp to a 500w SB500H and it does anything I want it to do. (Dire Straits - 6 blade knife just popped into my head)

Shoooooot. I just discovered this. Love Tech 21's stuff, but their price point was always off putting. I tended to go for all tube amps, which were still cheaper. At $500, this will be a solid (no pun intended) back up to those tube amps, or just a great lead amp. I wish I heard more demoing out of the amp, though.

The VT-500 will put out 500 watts into a 4 Ohm load.

Yes, 500 watts RMS, 1000 watts peak. The continuous power rating is the important one. Still you can't beat the wheel when it comes to power. You still need speakers if you want to produce a lot of bottom. It's no accident that the acoustic double bass is such a large instrument. It's physics. When we were testing our VT Bass 1000, through a 410 and 115 cab it was shaking the building.

Yoswer! Is there any highpassing? I hope so, or cabs will be blown up left and right. So many years of wattage inflation.

Heed the warning about cab quantity folks. Watts don't make bass, speakers do.

If you plug into a standard ''500''w single 15 you will absolutely need to use your ears to avoid blowing it.

Someone understood my point. When it comes to volume you need to move air molecules and the more speakers you have the more air you move. There is a subsonic filter and the power amp has a limiter but it's not idiot proof. If you don't rate your speakers properly you could have problems. The cabs we have are rated at 300 watts and are 8 ohms. Running one is safe but we've tested our cabs with the units and we rate on the conservative side. Just make sure if you are using another manufacturers cab that if it's 4 ohm's it needs to handle 500 watts rms, 1000 watts peak.
