New to effects......

......and I'm looking for a vibrato type effect for my "sound". At first I thought this was what an auto wah would provide but after trying my guitards Boss AW-2 I'm not so sure. What I have in mind is a mild but continuous vibrato to go with my English Muff'n (for mild distortion and to tube it up a bit) and a (as soon as fundage is available) MXR-288. Basically, the English Muff'n, MXR-288 and the vibrato effect would be part of my continuous sound. I'm also thinking about throwing a Bass Big Muff in there for some "on call" heavy distortion.

So, I'm looking for advise on getting the vibrato effect I'm looking for.

I'd also like to hear any thoughts/advise on my idea for my "sound" from effects gurus.

and it says that tremolo does "vibrato" with the volume while true vibrato is a slight shifting of pitch from # to b.

Tremolo would work but I think I'd like to find something that does a true vibrato if it's available.

But it's a bit out of my funds range right now. I guess I should ask what's the best vibrato (not tremolo) pedal for under $150?

true vibrato is a slight shifting of pitch from # to b.

this is true, vibrato is in the fingering. A slight slur from # to b with your fretting fingers. It's a personal touch, Jimi Hendrix's vibrato was different from Stevie Ray Vaughan's, who was different from Curtis Mayfield, who was different from Eric Johnson, etc., etc. I don't think true vibrato can be electronically duplicated.

I don't know if there's anything "untrue" about electronic vibrato but it certainly is a different thing from traditional vibrato technique.

Vibrato is just a slight pitch shifting effect that you can make with your fingers. If you want to use it as an always on sound it would be impractical to do it with your fingers. Much better to have the constant sound and predictability of a pedal.
