New to the site, and new to bass guitar. Played sax back in the 70's when I was a kid, but no instruments since then. Bought a 5 string bass (used Ibanez BTB-675 - loved the look of the wood) a couple months ago and have been going through Hal Leonards book 1 and at 53, am finding it slow going. That being said, I have my son and wife to motivate me (son has two e-guitars, an acoustic and a bass, and my wife got a set of e-drums just before I got my first bass). Craigslist showed me a used Yamaha bass for $40, and since it was local I had to bite... Bass needed some TLC and a couple knobs and strap buttons, but after squirting some Deoxit in the pots, the scratchiness went away...oh and it came with an old Hartke kickback amp (more Deoxit and lots of cleaning of the speaker and cabinet). All that being said, as frustrated as I am with my progress, I still look forward to playing and practicing every day.
