I know some of you read the post from Dr. Cheese about his new GrowIer V where I shared that purchased one as well. It came from from Swing City Music about a month ago. When I received it I was impressed with the action, sound, overall weight, etc. The only thing I was disappointed in was the looks of the body. The finish was good and smooth but the grains appeared to be from two different species.
The top half was very light in color with virtually no grain. The bottom half was much darker with grain. Due to that you could see quite clearly where they were joined in the center.
Add to that some 1" to 1-1/2" white streaks on the front at the hop just below the hirn and the back in the tummy cut that appeared to be something had dripped on it and cut through the color and at $1600 it wasn't a keeper.
The guys at were great to work with and ordered another one and decided to send pics so could accept or reject it. It didn't look much better so I declined and returned the one I had for a refund. They were operating at a distinct disadvantage as Gibson wool just pull one off the shelf and ship it so the finish was pot-luck.
I noticed the ones on Sweetwater's website which features photos from every angle on the ones they have in stock. Their prices were $1699, but I sent them to the Gibson website where they were selling at $1499 and the matched it.
I had them Plek the bass before shipping and it arrives today. Here are some picks of it.
