New Traynor YBA 100!!

YBA-100 - "For players looking for a more aggressive bass sound, the stock 6L6 tubes can be easily changed to any high quality EL34 tube set and be re-biased in the field." Anybody do this? Is it enough power to drive a 212 or 410 to gigging volumes?

I tried mine out with a few different brands of EL34’s; Electro Harmonix and Tungsol. The EH’s where grindy in a good way, the Tungsol’s were grindy but more 6L6’ish if that makes any sense. Both were loud and would probably keep with a band using the 410, well as long as your drummer is reasonable…….

On mine I've measured the bias currents and even with the amber just on the bias currents are low for 6L6GC tubes so no prob.
Just curious why you replaced the 6L6's? Mine have nice ones that should last years. It was the crappy 12AX7's that needed replacement.

So last night I hooked up my bias meter that has four probes. When adjusting both bias pots so the Amber light just comes on, the tube pairs would read 22mV on my meter. When adjusting the pots so the Amber light just shuts off, the meter read around 17-18mV. So you are correct, this amp seems to be engineered to run these tubes on the cold side?

Is that 17ma current? V.s. mV
I would expect a ballpark of 450V on the plates. I'm considering this amp and wondering what others are seeing for current draw. Cold bias doesn't deter me as long as it is stable.

Hi. I believe my meter reads in mV. I actually have a probe that reads the plate voltage. I’ll report soon.

So I just took a measurement and Plate Voltage came in at 490V.

EL34's need to run colder than 6L6GC's - so I suspect that is why they calibrated the LED's that low. I've got a set of straight 6L6's that I'm going to try as those are a better match to the bias LED's than the 6L6GC's that came with the amp. I'd expect the stock 6L6GC's to last 20 years no prob at these cold settings.

Had my yba100 to practice last night. All I can say is Holy $h&@, this thing rocks!!!!! Played a Reverend Rumblefish 5RL through my 2x210 Rumbles and had zero issues keeping up with two guitarist, drums and keyboard. Had Master dime’d and gain around 2, had really good clarity with just a touch of sweet grind. These amps get a bad rap for not being loud enough. I think the trick with these amps is that the Mid control is cut only. I love a lot of Mids in my sound which helps me cut through the mix a lot. I’m pretty sure I was maxing out the capabilities of this amp. Not bad performance out of an all tube amp that weighs in at 22lb, I call that a win!

Pretty sure that mid cut only, describes the yba200. The 300 and 100 have a different tone stack (same as each other) more like a baxandall.

I stand corrected, thought all Traynor’s were Cut only. Anywho, amp sounds fantastic pushed hard and mid cranked! LOL

Thanks. I felt the same way! You can’t see it real well, but I changed out the carrying handle with a brown leather in place of the black one.
