It's 8:20 PM, and I just got back from picking up the bass at Nino's.
What can I say? First impressions are very positive - the neck feels great, the ebony fretboard is exactly what I expected (I love ebony fretboards!), and most important, the tone is killer! The dual coils are very flexible in what they do - in single coil mode, the jazz bass tone is as authentic as it gets, in parallell, it sounds like a vintage '70's Stingray - that is what I was hoping for when I ordered the bass with the OBP-2 preamp. Nino's construction and setup is as flawless as everyone raves about here. Tim Cloonan did an outstanding job with the body and neck. The overall design that he and Nino came up with works very well. The access to the upper frets is a breeze. The spalted top is beautiful in person.
I have a rehearsal/writing session tomorrow night with my band, and I'll definitely bring this one along. This bass will make it's gig debut in Atlantic City March 14 and 15. The only downside to that is that I have to use the house rig instead of my own (the upside is that there is a lot less to carry!)
My initial impression is that this one's a keeper. Stay tuned!
