Well I say mix it up. Stove top knobs are great...old timey radio knobs are cool...
I'll never get the idea of sticking beautiful looking old school style cabs in live-in road cases.
Just got done tracking guitars today. For the record, the New Vintage V-15L killed it in the studio today. It only has 2 knobs, but blew every amp out of the water!

I believe Fender did that with the 300PS and 400PS. I think the 400PS had a 6L6 driver. Beast.
