I've beeen lurking on this site for a few weeks now and find it very helpful for me as a new bass player. I used to play the trumpet around 15 years ago (grade school and HS) but just stopped due to "it wasn't fun anymore".
My brother and my good friend are active musicians and have formed a band around a year ago. They were always trying to recruit me as their bass player (of course I would have to learn first) but I always denied. So eventually, they found a guy to play with them.
After watching them do a few gigs, I said "man, they are having a good time up there". I should have joined when I had the chance. Well, low and behold. The bassist quit and once again they asked it I would like to join and have some fun. So I did. It's been about 3 weeks into it and I am really enjoying it. I have taken some lessons and I'm practicing at least twice a day - 1 to 2 hours per session. Reason being is because they have a gig at the end of November
and want me in by then (talk about being thrown into the wolves). But they are pretty basic bass lines. Know way I can get fancy, but I can get through doing the basics for now.
Well, I'll definately be lurking on this site for tips, tricks and other info to help me get better.
