My only other bass is a MIM, as stated - not exactly "expensive stuff", but supposedly better than a lowly Squier; hey, it says "Fender", right ? Plus, it`s my first "real" bass, so it has sentimental value. I rotate other basses through just to try different stuff out, but I never keep `em.

My only other bass is a MIM, as stated - not exactly "expensive stuff", but supposedly better than a lowly Squier; hey, it says "Fender", right ? Plus, it`s my first "real" bass, so it has sentimental value. I rotate other basses through just to try different stuff out, but I never keep `em.
He was a pretty skilled banjo player and got the idea while jamming with a friend one night in the yard. It ws a nice night and people were watching, someone seemingly trying to impress everyone there remarked how he used to play guitar so my friend said, "You play guitar too?" (pause) Woooohoooo! as he broke into a fast pitched foot stomping banjo solo.
The dance evolved from that when he wanted to repeat it but didn't have his banjo. Good times.

That's like a guy who owns a Miata telling you that your Honda Civic isn't a car...some people like to trick out their cars and customize them or just want a car that will get the job done. YMMV, no pun intended concerning the previous example lol
Really! One person makes a flippant remake about a bass. And, he must be a punter because he drives a UPS truck. Somehow, I get the impression some might think they are better than him because he works for a living. And, if the quote is correct by the OP, it was not near as harsh, judgmental, or inflammatory as the heading of this post and your remarks.
He probably thought squier as in the guitar, not the bass line. His ignorance may not have meant to offend.

I agree with the UPS driver. You should probably get a water slide decal and fix that dirty S word on the headstock or your bass.

I love Squiers. My main bass is a Squire that I've put somewhere around $700 of work into. I'd put it up against anything.

R-amen, my friend. I am currently in Afghanistan and I brought a squier jazz bass with me because they are tough as nails and not so expensive that if they get blown up, I end up with post traumatic stress. This is my third overseas deployment and I have had some form of stringed squier instrument with me each time.
It's kind of cool because, after I come home with them, they aren't just squiers anymore... They are veteran Squiers... (devil horns)

One is for studio and more prestigious gigs (fairs, festivals, showcases)
The other cheaper basses are for bar gigs or standard cover gigs, where theft is possible or just getting a beer spilled on your gear.
.... my main concern here is what is step 2... I want the big profits.... but it wasn't explained how... just step 1 and 3... unless your from arkansas and thats how you count =D

And as a general rule when I first started playing I thought Warwicks were the Holy Grail... being 14 and not having that kind of scratch I went with an Ibanez EDC and a Squier... and couldn't have been happier with my decision... so 4 or 5 years down the road I finally got to play a Warwick and was thouroughly un-enthused... So for your "bass-phenom" UPS driver, just let him know that its not the pricetag that makes you not fail-bassist™.....
My humble opinion is that the guy is right. He might be wrong in the situation because it doesn´t come to the case, he just has to deliver and save his opinions. But the fact is true, though...After years of work I could afford a real Stingray, never considering to have an OLP or such, which might look similar but are not. But I also have a Spirit XT2 bass and a GTPro Spirit guitar, which I love to play and are great instruments for the price. No matter this, I can´t get out of my head the fact that these are NOT Steinbergers, and as much as I would love to have a real one, I am doing great with these two. If I can afford one some day, then I will and be proud of the fact, but in the meantime I will not loose sleep over it....but I don´t go around picking fights and saying "look, a real Steinberger", LOL. I have had also Fenders and Squiers, and liked them both, but even having that, I´ve seen guys who have a MIM Fender say "this is not a fender, this was made in Mexico, not in the US"...

Yes I am, since these guys in the US know what they are doing, but I don´t see the point in rubbing it on someone else´s face. That is just plain STUPID.
The point here is that you have to be happy with what you have, but also don´t kid yourself with it being other thing. I am very happy to have these Spirits, but I don´t call them real Steinbergers, and don´t loose my sleep over it, being very fortunate to have these. But definitely I would LOVE to have a real Steinberger, not for bragging but only for the pleasure that I have something wonderful that I could purchase with my effort.

Yes I am, since these guys in the US know what they are doing, but I don´t see the point in rubbing it on someone else´s face.
