News on Chunk Systems Bass Synth

For those of you trying to get an update on the availability of this pedal, here is what I heard last week.

On 8/20 I got an email back from Chunk Systems that stated the following:

"We're working really hard to get the first units out to our distributors
before the end of August, but it might end up being early September before
we can complete our initial production run."

On 8/19 I got an email back from Godlyke that stated the following:

"No firm date yet, although its looking like mid-to-late September (I'd guess around the 20th)

I understand your situation, but I'd be remiss if I did not advise you that we are almost sold out of the first shipment of this product. I'm not sure when we'll get a 2nd production run, but it may not be until early next year........."

I don't think you can get much more information than from those two sources.

Where in Australia will take preorders? I have the money and am thinking about preordering with Godlyke but would prefer to do it through somewhere in Australia if I can.

Despite what you think, waiting for this pedal a bit longer will likely not kill you, nor decrease your skill as a bass player. :D

Funny there isn't info on local availability though, maybe they have presold the first batch to o/s dealers or ?????

Twatting the UK with that obscenely inflated price utterly rules out this pedal for me. And it should for everyone else in the UK.

With the current exchange rate on $ being 1 GBP = 1.95098 USD, that makes the £ value = 307.537 GBP.

I am not prepared to pay anyone a 172% markup for anything just because they think its alright.

Stuff 'em...

The pricing discussion has little to do with Chunk recouping their money, and much more to do with UK purchasers being (possibly) gouged by their local dealer and / or government (VAT etc).

I asked why the difference was so high and got this response:

OK so assuming the above exchange rate we have 307.537 as an equivalent US $ RRP.

Shipping shouldnt cost more than £20 a unit (hey thats for all the bubblewrap in the world too I would think, more likely half that cost, but hey lets cut them some slack here)

Takes us to £327.537

Add 17.5% VAT takes that to £384.86 which by the previous exchange rate is $750.85

And they are quoting an RRP of £529? For those who cant be bothered thats $1168.64 by the above exchange rate!!

Thats an additional £147.64

Some markup!

There is NO WAY that that is all about VAT and local markup, they are calling RRP shots here, thats post any markup. Someone is taking the p*** out of UK punters big time with that kind of thing.

Hell they could be shipping at £100 a unit and still be significantly more expensive.

All this means is that no one will buy the pedal from retailers in this country. SInce no one will buy this kind of pedal without looking into it first, and discovering the rip off and work arounds. Which doesnt do anyone any favours at all, except the US guys willing to sell and ship here. Upshot, this pedal wont be on sale here for very long at all.

Hey Guys

Anyone who is after australian prices and availability PM me or email the store [email protected].

I will respond with all the details and availability - i spoke to Richard @ chunk yesterday afternoon.

Email or PM is the best way as i dont want to breach the commercial user policy:).

Thanks guys

Joel

If you answer a question, I don't think it's a violation of the CUP. So what availability details do you have? Have you heard anything for the US?

;)

I have no info for the US because they are through distribution - Godlyke - but richard told me yesterday that they are going into production this week. We have started taking pre orders as he said that his initial run will probably sell pretty quick -
