Great pass rushers are hard to find ~ Jon Gruden
Chiming in on the Mathews call as well. It's just such an obvious targeting of a player when the other team had a hit on the QB that was far worse, in plain view of two refs and it went uncalled. This time it may not have cost the game but it CERTAINLY has called at least one refs impartiality and ability to fairly ref a game into question.

Gruden was mildly entertaining as a commentator; as a coach, he's an unintentional comic genius.
I've always maintained that he managed to not f-up Tony Dungy's 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs just long enough to win a Super Bowl in 2003, and his entire career since has been based upon that one misconception. He's already doing a bang-up job of proving me right this season.
Yup, the rule itself needs to be addressed; and, there needs to be some method of oversight in regards to how the officiating crews apply the rule, and some kind of mechanism to address uneven/unfair application of it.
I have an unopened box of tinfoil, I'll be happy to share it with you, should the need arise.
Simple. The Matthews hit was good, legal, and the penalty call was a mistake by the ref. There's no other way to look at it, as no human could have avoided contacting the QB at the time that ball was released, and Matthews kept his helmet out of the tackle. It was as clean a tackle as you can get.

I'm thinking Tomlin takes his seat in the booth next year. He's rode Bill Cowhers team for all it was worth. He's just not as funny, intentional or otherwise.
Neither did the Fail's defense in OT yesterday...that was a true thing of beauty, seeing an elite offense just IMPOSE it's will upon a defense. Atlanta never sniffed the ball in OT.

Decline? WHAT decline? Dude is literally ageless, it seems. I keep waiting for him to lose his edge, and he just doesn't - he can't quite get the long ball down the field like he did 8-10 years ago, but he's even better at that than probably 90% of the other starting QB's in the league (they had the most 20+ yard completions in the NFL last year).
No mention yet of the Pats being soundly defeated by the (gasp) Lions? That's an eye-opener.
Now the Pats' demise has been predicted far too often in recent years. So as much as I want to see it happen, I'm not a believer as yet. But if they lose to Miami at home this weekend (which I don't think will happen), it may be time to start wondering.

The Lions defense is an issue, but that offense was never as bad as folks made out. Stafford has been one of the better QBs, quietly, year in and year out with minimal talent around him aside from Megatron.
The Patriots will be just fine. They win when it matters. Well, most of the time.
It's likely they won't have the Steelers to kick around this postseason, so another trip to the Super Bowl may be more difficult this time.
