NFL 2018 Week #8

Another game in England? Give it a rest Goodell.
It had the makings for a good game, now look at it. Yawner.
The Blake Bortles era of championship caliber QB play backed up by a stout defense are over, and we're seeing each week just how much Philly got over on the Patriots last year in the SB.

Hear, hear. Totally agree. England, Mexico, China...wherever. Exhibition games...fine. But not regular season games that count in the standings. Just my two cents.

The Cardinals (with new OC Leftwich) entertain the only team they've beaten so far this season, the equally pitiful 49ers. Don't forget to set the VCR for this one! ;)

Seahawks play the Lions. That should be interesting. Both teams have thoroughly mediocre records. Both teams seem to be improving. The Lions actually run the ball these days. So do the Seahawks for the first time in several years. It should be a proper old-fashioned game. The field should be mud, to make it even more authentic.

So, as I ended things on the Week 7 thread: "Worst week yet, 6-9, speaking of pathetic! o_O 33-27 for the year...I'm struggling to stay above .500!"

The only reason it didn't truly suck is that Justin Tucker did something he'd never done before:

...player of the week for the New Orleans Saints: Justin Tucker, ladies & gentlemen (hey...there is no such thing as an ugly win...:D ). I actually feel just a little bad for Justi....wait...no, it passed. :cool: :bassist: ;)

So, on to week 8:

TNF:

Dolphins @ Texans - This one might actually be a prime time game worthy of watching. Maybe. My thinking is that the Texans D is going to be more than the Dolphin offensive line can handle, and it seems that the Texans have figured out how to play a bit of offense now...and it's in Houston, the Phins haven't traveled well this season. Dolphins 20 Texans 31

Sunday RIDICULOUSLY EARLY, and STUPIDLY IN LONDON game:

Eagles @ Jaguars (really, can either team be the "home" team? :spit: ) - Two significantly underachieving teams here, but I think that the Bortles issue will be the determining factor. Man, the Jags blew that choice, didn't they? :eek: Eagles 27 Duval County Bortles 13

Sunday Early Games:

Broncos @ Chiefs - Yeah...not gonna be pretty, even though the Broncos defense has looked adequate. Broncos 13 Chiefs 31

Browns @ Steelers - Not in Cleveland? Not gonna be a tie (not because the Steelers are all that good, just because....). Browns 17 Steelers 24

Redskins @ Giants - Down to one Eli, still won't help them. Redskins 30 Giants 10

Seahawks @ Lions - Good matchup of two meh teams. Homefield 3. Seahawks 17 Lions 20

Buccaneers @ Bengals - Bengals bounce back bigtime because Bucs blow. These are words with a "B" this time (those that get the reference, bonus points! :hyper: ). Bucs 23 Bengals 34

Jets @ Bears - Off the Jets wagon; Bears will be on fire at home after losing a game that they had a shot at against the Pats last week. Not even close...Jets 13 Bears 31

Ravens @ Panthers - Panthers have been getting gifts from sub-par teams (last second win against Giants; 4th quarter comeback against the slumping Eagles). This team is not sub-par, and will rub Cam's nose in his own poop all day with the joke of an offensive line Carolina fields (think 5 sacks/TFL). The Panthers defense is aging out, slowing down, and will get beat up because the Ravens will be able to play ball control football against them (thanks to the lack of a competent offense on the Panthers side of the equation). Reality drops on Panthers fans: your team will be a wildcard at best, and may not make the post season this year - because they aren't good, just slightly above mediocre. Ravens 27 Panthers 18

Colts @ Raiders - Who will the Raiders trade away this week? o_O Colts will do just fine on the road here, against the toothless wonder that Chucky has created out in Oakland this season. Colts 34 Raiders 23

49ers @ Cardinals - Meh. Why bother? Well, because I need to make a pick, otherwise...meh. Home field 3. 49ers 17 Cardinals 20

Packers @ Rams - A-Rod and the better-than-you-realize Packers defense will make a game of this. And it may be more of a game than the Rams are ready for. Close one, no matter which team ends up on top, but I'm gonna take this one for my upset special. Packers 27 Rams 24 (or flip it ;) )

SNF:

Saints @ Vikings - Yeah, yeah, yeah....Minnesota Miracle, blah, blah, blah, blah. Not this time, I don't see this Saints team spotting a not as-good-as-you-think Vikes team a half of football this time, they're going to actually play all 4 quarters (reference: see first drive against Ravens, this is an ANGRY Saints team).

The Vikes offense can't run the ball, Theilen is good but can be contained, Diggs is fast but can also be contained - especially if the Saints front 7 get after a shaky under pressure Cousins, who is sitting behind a suspect offensive line. The Saints D doesn't need to STOP the Vikes, just slow them down a bit...because...

On the other side, the Saints offense will shred a not so impressive this year Vikings defense (and they weren't so impressive in the 2nd half of the game in January either), it will be a full-frontal assault between Boom & Zoom on the ground and the air attack that may not have big names, but still puts up big yards and points. Too much for the Vikings, they will lose at home, again, and convincingly at that. Saints 42 Vikings 24

MNF: Patriots @ Bills - This crap is why I don't really respect the Pats, they start every season with 6 wins. I mean, really, can't anyone in the AFC East put an actual NFL team on the field? :spit: This will be a "why bother?" prime time game. Pats 48 Bills 13

By the way, do not get the NFL app on your phone if you're on Verizon. I just got a nasty surprise: it is designed to default to using your data even if you're on wi-fi. :mad: They do not make that clear in any way, until you get your first notification that you're running out of data. Very uncool of both Verizon and the NFL.

Jury is out for me. Kid has the tools, but hasn't been able to figure out what to do with a hammer or screwdriver just yet...keeps trying to drive nails with a #2 phillips head. If getting in a healthy locker room is what was missing, maybe he pulls it together. I doubt he sees the field this week, in any event, so we won't get any indication at all for another game at least.

I'm hopeful, almost anything can be an improvement at CB #2 for us, Patrick Peterson was a dream, many fans were lobbying for it, but that was never going to happen. This may be throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it's done - but Crawley and PJ Williams have been uneven at best opposite Lattimore, so they had to do SOMETHING. Whether this "something" was good or bad...who knows...if he's any improvement at all over the current #2's, he's worth the 4th rounder, for sure.

...haven't really followed the mom thing much, not into the whole "People Magazine" side of teams outside of NOLA. ;)

The Bucs are falling apart slowly, the Bungles will pick the carcass this weekend. Not because I think Cincy is "good" any longer, but because I know the Bucs are really just that bad of a team, despite the whole "Fitzmania" for the first couple of weeks. :spit:

Agreed about Burfict, he's a wart on the arse of the game. That said, so is Jameis Winston, and frankly I find Captain Eat-A-W far more offensive than Burfict. Burfict is a jerk on the field; Winston is a serial sexual assaulter off of it (for the record, I also detest Roethlisberger for the same reason). Winston is also the single most overrated player in the NFC South, and most of the fans in that division think he sucks. ;)

A "no-win" would be good for all three of us - a tie - that would be perfect. :D The Browns ALMOST provided us with yet another one last week, everyone in the bar I was at watching the games (Saints games are not often broadcast here in NC for some reason....;) ) was actually also pulling for a tie...

Totally looking forward to watching Packers/Rams this afternoon. We don’t get Rams games in the Midwest very often, which is a drag when they are being tagged by many pundits as the top team in the league at the moment.

I saw them a lot more when they were in St Louis. Looking forward to seeing if they live up to the hype!:hyper:

Every now and then even the Bills pull an upset, MNF would be a great place for that to happen. The Bills have long been the laughing stock of Western NY and this season doesn't look to be any different than years past.

With that being said, hopefully they pull it off..... between being home for a MNF game and the rowdy Orchard Park crowd, I'd love to see them beat the Patriots.

Well shoot. The Browns were the Browns this week. At least the Seahawks look like they have some life in them. Maybe the season will turn out better than I thought it would in September. They are in full rebuild mode as far as I can tell. Carroll doesn't wear a hoodie, so they can't do an instant rebuild can they?
