First four penalties tonight have been on the Chiefs, including an offsides call on 3rd and goal that gave the Chargers another shot after an incompletion, resulting in a TD. And a remarkably soft roughing the passer call. Sorry if this hurts any narratives, haha.

A grown man spitting on another man over a football game?
I didn't even waste my time tuning in the game when I saw that headline. How embarrassing.

One of the reasons I dislike the Eagles is this kind attitude. This sort of vibe exists more and more, which turns me off from a lot of sports, honestly. It’s a cultural thing tied to the world we live in. This sort of showboating and mean mugging is increasingly what passes for entertainment these days. I’m obviously getting old, because I don’t find it entertaining, and feel it cheapens the real beauty of the sport, which is the strategy and athletic mastery of the players.

I saw a few drives of the game last night before going to bed. It looked like a good game. Glad to read that the Bolts broke their jinx against the Chiefs when I woke up.

Not stoked on the Bowers injury, but a Raider win is always nice. Geno Smith is aggressive, so I'm certainly optimistic for the season. Offense would have to try to be worse than last year, but so far so good. That said, the Patriots were awful last year as well and the weather definitely caused some slips on both sides. I don't think it would have changed the result, but very possibly the score.

It's hard to tell if Maye is a good QB or if the Raiders secondary really is just mediocre and thin. Same thing with Raiders o line vs Patriots d line. Not sure if I learned a lot this game.

Turns out I get games on Paramount+ so looks like I will be watching more than the one or two games I did last year. I completely forgot how silly kickoffs are now. I get the purpose but it looks dumb.

The best moment in the Steelers-Jets game had to be JJ Watt talking smack about his brother batting the ball down instead of getting the interception.

Otherwise, I’m not convinced by either QB. Rodgers’ game has always been based on using movement behind the line of scrimmage to make the defense stop and think. He took 3 sacks that wouldn’t have come close 3 years ago. No need to stop and think if he can’t get away. If Rodger’s keeps playing like he did today, he may be finishing the season/his career on injured reserve.

Fields looked good, except he still has problems making quick decisions on high percentage, short, quick throws. He’s certainly better now than he used to be, but the Jets may have won if a couple passes that were late and behind Garrett Wilson had been on time and in front of him.

Hope springs eternal, doesn't it.

I'm here in Nashville with the Titans, who knows where THAT's going to go?

I will say that once I realized even the 'average' players who make NFL minimum salaries (much less the 'big names' who can buy Gulfstreams) make more money than I'd see in 20 years, I learned not to get too upset or ate up with 'Go Team!'-itis. It's a big business paying stoopid money (not unjustified as you could easily get crippled, even killed, out there) and if they're smart, they're set for life.

And living in town with an NFL team, it's often down to way more than just playing the games. Off the field goof-ups, injuries, a lot can go wrong besides what happened in this or that game.

And ultimately, in the long term, I think the NFL and football will fade: All it would take would be for a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to begin to suffer with CTE or any of the big stars, and you will see more and more kids move to soccer, 'futbol' for the rest of the planet.

Or they're well on their way to pricing out regular people with nosebleed ticket prices to the stadium games, and little by little all NFL games will fade from free TV into paid scenarios. Just like the Gov't, the NFL always wants MORE money.

The Steelers are on their way to another non-losing season. A few thoughts:

Having to count on Boswell's 56 and 60 yard FGs is not a good sign.

This defense is far from elite.

Aaron Rogers can still play.

Another take-away is that Justin Fields was not the problem with Pittsburgh last year.
Steelers fan checking in. That was a pretty exciting and entertaining game to say the least to start the season and, yes to all the points you just made. I guess we'll see if Rodgers can stay consistent and healthy through the season.

Yes indeed buddy.
The problem in Pittsburgh was on full display with the Fields naked bootleg for the TD. Who in the world leaves a QB uncovered who (1) is known to be a runner, (2) already had 50 yards rushing in the game, and (3) played for you last year so you know all his tendencies and abilities already?
None other than the defensive minded Mike Tomlin. Such a dumb call on that play for the defense. If TJ Watt even stopped for one second, he had a sack but he was too busy running toward the other 10 Steelers trying to tackle a guy without the ball.
@Rich Fiscus is right, Rodgers ain't gonna last the season at this rate. That line has to block.

My son came over to watch the game. We both had early mornings so when Baltimore went up 15 in the 4th, he bailed, and after he left I went to bed. I wake up to find that the Bills scored 16 unanswered in the final 3 minutes to win after they couldn’t stop the Ravens all night. What?

I mean, I’m a Bills fan so I’ll take it, but how does that happen? My son texted me that he thinks it’s because he left.

Only saw about an hour of the Pack game, but Love looked good. And adding Parsons sure isn’t going to hurt them!

It did take a lot for that comeback to happen. A TD on a tipped pass that happens to go right into the hands of a second Buffalo receiver in the end zone--on fourth down! And then Derrick Henry, who hardly ever fumbles, does so on the second play after that.
And of course, John Harbaugh playing not to lose instead of to win.
