The Lions draft has pluses and minuses. Ansah is the big question mark. The sad thing is there just weren't many guys in this draft worth the #5 pick. But for a team like the Lions to draft a project #5 will either make or break the teams future for a long time.

I like the drafting of Darius Slay, he may have been the best CB not named Millner in the draft (and Millner had way to many injury questions to go #5). And Warford should be able to start at G right away and was a great run blocker. Devin Taylor seems to have a lot of potential too at DE. But drafting a punter in the fifth round? Unless he's Ray Guys cousin I have my doubts. I'll give it a B-

I like a lot of their off season, picking up Bush, Quinn, keeping Delmas. But both the offensive and defensive lines are a work in progress, and they are depending on two WR's coming back from serious injuries. But they need to add at least one more LB, and OL to even be competitive. Unless some of these unheralded roster guys that didn't do squat last year are ready to make huge steps. I have my doubts.

I wonder if Matt Barkley fell as far as he did because of the steady train of previous USC star QB's who promptly flop once they suit up on Sundays. Perhaps more than a few GM's were nervous to take a chance.

I'd say it's that combined with USC's flop of a season.

Here's the simplest way to cut down the concussions: (and I sent this to Roger Goodell as well, LOL)

"If the tackling player does not have his arms exrtended as if to wrap the ball carrier, it is an illegal hit."

One small rule chang, that will help to eliminate the impact of helmet to helmet hits, since it won't let the defender tuck his arm into his chest to launch a hit with the helmet/shoulder.

Speaking about the SEC.. here's hoping the two RB's the Packers picked - Lacy and Franklin, whom quite a few had previously rated the top two backs in the draft, give the GB offense a legit run game to go along with their feared passing game. A scary thought for opposing defenses.

Eddie Lacy is big and fast as shown in this clip from last season:

The guy has been playing QB his whole life, and has lots of experience with a pro system. He is also very accurate, a great trait to have at the pro level. That's what Chip Kelly probably liked. I've seen comparisons to Drew Brees, but of course, if he is yet another USC flop, that won't matter.

Anyway, Leinart and Sanchez are flops, but Palmer wasn't!

Bucs CB/S, and one of my all-time favorite players, Ronde Barber is to announce his retirement tomorrow (Thursday).

With this, the last of the old guard of the Bucs championship level defense departs. After 16 years with the Bucs, and only the Bucs, something that you rarely see in the free agency era, he's easily one of the most well liked players we've ever had in Tampa. It actually makes me a little sad to know he's going, since he's been my personal favorite Buc for the last 12-13 years.

Farewell Ronde, thanks for all the great games and good memories.

A great guy retired: Jason Hansen. Kicker for the Lions for 21 years!!! The only player in NFL history to hang with one team that long - because he was exceptional.

A great kicker with my Cougs at Washington State, the Lions were smart enough to NEVER let go of their secret weapon (Hanson) until he retired this winter.

Hanson was the team's all-time leader in scoring, with 2,150 points and in field goals with 495, and holds a variety of other team records for kicking and scoring. He represented the NFC in the Pro Bowl in 1998 and 1999, and was an alternate in 1997 and 2008. He has booted 17 game-winning field goals in his career; eight in regulation and nine in overtime.

On April 4, 2013, Hanson announced his retirement. At the time of his retirement, he was the oldest active player in the NFL. The Detroit Lions will induct him into the Ring of Honor at Ford Field for his success and dedication to Detroit Lions football.

Jason Hanson - a great guy, a solid player, and one of the greatest kickers ever to play the game.

Steelers right tackle Mike Adams was stabbed in the stomach outside his home today while trying to stop 3 guys from stealing his truck. The good news is that it didn't damage any major organs, although it did require surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery in 6 - 8 weeks.

One of the perps dropped his cell phone while making his escape. The police reportedly recovered it, so hopefully they'll announce at least one arrest before too long. Adams is recovering in the hospital.
