NFL Week #19 THE PLAYOFFS

The jets are a good football team, but its hard to respect a team that acts so poorly between games. That's why you don't see people respecting them. All they do is piss and moan and gloat. And this is coming from a Raiders fan. Belichick is dick too, but I don't feel the same way about the players. The pats ownership really goes a long way too keep them out of the media.

Really? Back in the 90's when Dallas was tearing up teams they played they were probably the worst in the league for trash talking and being in the media for negative events. Yet, people still respected their game play.

Michael Vick is another prime example of someone who still gets respect for how he plays the game and his antics off the field were much worse than anything the Jets pull. Ben Rothlesburger is another. Shall I continue?

I suppose you're right, but compared to the amount of trash talking they do compared to how long they've been good pales in comparison. Dallas, Vick, and Ben have been/were good much longer than the Jets 2-3(?) years.

Sure I can respect the jets gameplay, but not nearly as much as they feel they deserve: 2006 they were 4-12, 2008 & 2009 they were 9-7, and this year they were 11-5, their best season by far.

That's part of special teams... You quoted me but only mentioned Devin Hester. Special Teams however, is more then one guy and includes coverages, among others. I think the Seahawks, embarrassingly, punted like 9 or 10 times and he returned 2. One for like 17 yards and one for two (would have to look it up to remember exactly)...

Point is. He didn't do anything to hurt us.

Respecting game play is one thing, respecting the team is another.

Just as many will NEVER respect Vick again.

My wife is a die-hard Steelers fan, and she'll never wear her Rothlesberger jersey again.

As for the Pats - the fact that Welker started the game on the bench speaks volumes to me. While I thought it was funny, I also thought his press conference was seriously low-class. I really respected BB for sitting him down.

Saying that you're going to try to end someone's career? Disgusting, and unbelievably unprofessional.

Calling a QB who's always respectful of opponents an !@#$%? Again, grow up.

My main problem with Bart Scott is not that he's frustrated with being disrespected. I get that - New England spent years in that zone. But his anger (and words) are misdireected. The media counted the Jets out - not the Pats. Remember when the Pats won their first SB? Bellichick summed it up great at his post game interview when he said something along the lines of "if we were to go out and play tomorrow, we'd be the underdogs". That's how to voice your frustration with the media.

What are you talking about? The Jets have been good much longer than the 3 seasons you mentioned. They were also good long before both Vick and Rothliisberger ever entered the league.

They began to turn things around on a consistent basis in 1997. Since then, they have only had 3 losing seasons. They're best season was also in 1998 when they went 12-4. 3 losing seasons in a 13 year span isn't exactly what you can call a bad team.

1997: 9-7
1998: 12-4
1999: 8-8
2000: 9-7
2001: 10-6
2002: 9-7
2003: 6-10
2004: 10-6
2005: 4-12
2006: 10-6
2007: 4-12
2008: 9-7
2009: 9-7
2010: 11-5

I never said they were a bad team. I actually said they were a good team. Based on that record you've posted, they've been from horrible to decent to good. But nowhere near what their trash talking/arrogance warrants. That's my point. You earn respect.

4-12 is a horrible season & they've done that twice since 2005. And they've also been 10-6 twice since 2004. Then they were 9-7 twice and now 11-5. Sounds inconsistent, and I agree they are turning things around. Even their record indicates that they haven't been terribly relevant for very long. I never said they weren't good, you missed the point.

Yeah, but he still played. That speaks an even louder volumes to me than temporarily benching him for a little while during the game. That tells me it's only a guise to make the Patriots look a bit classier than they really are.

Where's the deterrent from doing something like that again if he's only benched for a few plays or a quarter of the game? He knows he's still going to be playing. So there's very little deterrent to prevent him from doing something like this again. IMO, it was little more than an attempt to make themselves look classier than they truly are. BTW, I too thought it was pretty funny.

I was referring to having consistent winning seasons since 1997. They have had those. 3 losing seasons and one at 8-8. That's consistent winning seasons, not concurrent ones.

If Welker didn't play the whole game Bellichick would have been strung up by the media here. He was benched the first series in a playoff game and definitely sent a message to Welker and the team.

I somewhat feel like you're splitting hairs between "concurrent & consistent". They are very closely related. And both are needed if you want "respect" if you're going to run your mouth.
