NFL Week #19 THE PLAYOFFS

I think NFL Sunday Ticket is around $300, which is crazy. I get NHL Center Ice for half that, and it is a minimum of 40 games per week for six months.
I like me some NFL football, but not that much. Besides, a handful of Steelers games will be on national TV anyway. The others I can catch at my local sports bar where I may drop $30 or $40 on food and beverages during the game.

Yep, it isn't nearly as old, but the games are much more intense than anything the Packers and Bears have played in that same time frame.
I'll have to rely on you GB and Chicago guys for this one.... besides this last match-up where GB needed a few things to happen to get in the playoffs besides winning themselves, when was the last GB/Chicago match-up with something big on the line?
I'm not discounting the historical significance of the rivals, but it does get to be old when anytime these discussions come up, some NFC North guy pipes up about how the NFC North is the best. Well yeah, they were the best 50 years ago.

Yes, I realize he went out in the fourth quarter...I don't either. Considering how many relocated New Englanders there are around here you would expect more of the Patriots games to be broadcast, but I miss too many of them.
If I could watch the games that aren't broadcast on the primary channels on pay per view for the same price as a movie, I would probably watch them. Of course, being greedy so and so's, the NFL PTBs would arrange for the games each market wants the most to coincidentally be pay per view when it isn't a local team and some game nobody cares about would be on the broadcast channel.

I watched nearly all the New England Patriot's games for free in Hawaii. When I first moved here in 1986, I was lucky to watch one or two games per year. The local channels opted for San Francisco or San Diego games most of the time.

Actually, the Ravens are basically the old Cleveland Browns. Remember, Art Modell took the Browns and moved to Baltimore. So one could argue that the "new" Cleveland Browns (in Cleveland) is the newer rivalry. The old Steelers/Browns rivalry goes back pretty far.
Maybe so, but this isn't the 40's anymore.

Anyone who doesn't think the Packers/Bears rivalry is THE biggest in pro football, doesn't know anything about the rivalry.
For those who aren't from around these parts, I can understand not knowing just how deep the viciousness of it truly is. Forget the national media's take on any rivalries...those idiots made Dallas "America's team" and will play up anything to sell their load of crap. A lot of fans will play homeboys and pick any team they want to beat regularly as a big rival.
There are very few pro teams I would put into any true freaking "rivalry" category. In particular, any team born in the modern era. You think all these rich punk athletes these days even know what a real rivalry is?
The modern era has produced artificial rivalries and with free agency being what it is, how much blood is there when someone like a Jim McMahon plays backup as a Green Bay Packer? When he fricking shows up at the White House with the Super Bowl winning Packers wearing his Bears uniform!!!
There is so much hatred between these two clubs that no other modern rivalry comes anywhere close. Not at all, in any way.See the thing about rivalries is it's about beating the crap out of someone you truly despise. Even if you lose, if you can get a guy on the other team to cough up blood, break his fingers, or nail his wife after the game you still feel like a winner.
You guys think it's about winning.

Lovie Smith comes to the Bears and makes his priorities to beat the Packers, and oh yeah...win the Super Bowl. The Packers/Bears games are huge even when neither team in in the hunt. Beating the crap out of the other team is more important than winning the Super Bowl.
And some of you still think a rivalry is about getting to the Super Bowl and winning it and if the other team is in the way, all the better.
I can miss other games on TV, but I will NEVER miss a Packer/Bears game...not ever.

Can't say I am. Although I do like the Packers, especially Aaron and Clay. I guess I just can't see rivalry at all in the NFL. None, all games just seem the same to the players.
It's still huge to the players on each team, though I'm sure not to the same intensity for all the players. I've talked to quite a few players after some of those rivalry games over the years. Trust me, it's something every player gets indoctrinated in as soon as they join the team. It's so much a part of their history that it simply cannot be ignored...and the fans sure as hell won't let them forget about it.
For fans of both teams, living only hours away from each other is an annoyance and us having to put up with those flatlanders driving up here on their vacations is a sore spot even way beyond football. We HATE the Bears. They are the enemy in every way.
For some of us, Packers/Bears games are EVERYTHING and it's not just about football or winning games. If someone said they'd give me free Super Bowl tickets (with the Packers being in it) or free tickets to a Packers/Bears game, I'd choose the Packers/Bears game to attend.
Just the thought of someone saying the Packers/Bears game isn't a big rivalry makes my blood boil.
Slow down sport.
I know this Bears/Packers thing is HUGE to you guys, but please do not kid yourself into thinking that Lovie's main priority every season is to beat GB twice. Same with McCarthy, his top priority each season is not to beat Chicago two times.
Yes, I will agree that it is very regional. How many of you guys care about the Pittsburgh/Cleveland rivalry, or the Oakland/San Diego rivalry? Anyone Wisconsin people stoked about the big New England/Indy games? Sure you watch them on TV, but that is the extent of your interest.

The Cowboys/Redskins rivalry doesn't go back quite as far as the Packers/Bears, but it dates to the George Allen Washington era, and is a very big rivalry. The media didn't create this one, George Allen did. The rivalry wasn't as heated in the 80's and 90's as it was in the 60's and 70's, but when Danny Snyder bought the 'Skins, he tried to make it big again. The Redskins priority is to beat the Cowboys 1st, win the Superbowl 2nd. The rivalry isn't quite as big of a deal to us Dallas fans, but those games are circled on the calendar every year, trust me.
I'd totally disagree with that. I see some serious rivalries. The Pittsburgh/Baltimore rivalry being just one of several. Same goes for the Cowboys/Redskins or Packers/Bears.
