NFL Week #19

In the back of my mind, I still question the Jets defensive numbers. Yes, Revis shut down Randy Moss in week 11 (and shut down a lot of the league's elite throughout the season), but Wes Welker still put up 192 yds receiving (Brady had 299 total). I also can't help but wonder how much of NYJ's stat lines benefit from playing the Bills and Dolphins twice and having the Bucs and Carolina on their schedule as well. Meanwhile, Payton Manning put up 192 yards of passing in a little over 3 quarters.

The Bucs/Carolina games obviously didn't hurt the stats but, they lost twice to the Dolphins, and went 1-1 against the Bills and Patriots. They even did a pretty good job of shutting Indy down when they played them. Manning was 14/21 for 192 yds, but had no TD's. Though Indy had far more passing yards that game 213-91 (Most of which were Peyton's in the 1st half he played) they still kept them out of the end zone.

They also shut down dominant receivers like Chad Johnson, Andre Johnson, Randy Moss and Marques Colston. Their combined numbers: 10 catches, 92 yards and no touchdowns.

I think it's safe to say the Jet's defense is overall pretty solid.

And in response to Wrex & Co.:

Just as appropriate. ;)

FWIW, Revis is an amazing player, but the Jets D was monstrous in a lot of ways, I think that Woodson WAS the single most valuable defensive player, because he was that much better than any other Packer defender, which is the entire POINT of the MVP award.

I'd liked to have seen Revis get the award but you're right they were monstrous in lots of ways. It was because of him though. His coverage skills allow the other defenders to do other things, like blitz, shade coverages, etc.

I definitely won't argue they're not solid. In their second loss to MIA they held the Dolphins to 104 yards. Revis has definitely frustrated every elite receiver he's faced. I'm not trying to suggest they aren't a solid defense, just that they're a solid defense with the benefit of scheduling to pad the stats and boost them to #1.

Either way, I think SD is the team with something to prove, just like Indy was last night. Definitely looking forward to a great game today.

He disappeared for days straight after their last losses during the regular season. You think if they get whooped in the championship game he'll disappear until spring training, or is that just wishful thinking? :smug:

WHERE'S MY BEER, PUNK?!?!?!?!?

;)

I didn't "disappear", I was genuinely overwhelmed with family stuff after the Dallas loss, I showed up on Monday (not even 48 hours later) to eat crow, publicly.

Now, on YOUR issue, you lost a bet with me in EARLY DECEMBER, which you have not paid off on yet, because YOU disappear when you lose bets, apparently.

:smug:

Well, count me as a Saints fan next week. I HATE THE VIQUEENS

Sheesh, we're gonna have to reinforce the springs on the bandwagon, apparently!

;)

I love how EVERYONE bagged on the Saints toward the end of the season, when they had their division handily won, they knew they had at least ONE home game, and the bye, and they started to rest players....the close loss to Dallas made Dallas the "hot" team (because the freakin' common-taters all have their heads stuck up the Cowpatty's rectum and are always looking for an excuse to make them "America's Team" yet again :spit: )...they pulled half their starters against the Bucs and let one slip away...then they played their bench and practice squad against the Panthers in a game that had NO value...

...all the sudden, they are losers all over again, right? No way they can "just flip a switch" and start playing like they did early in the season....right...

Folks, they just flipped a switch yesterday, that was the 13-0 New Orleans Saints out there, not only can they flip a switch, but they also flipped a BIRD at the media and all of the mindless sheep that listen to Peter King (who I prefer to refer to as "King Peter", as it is more accurate, if you think about it ;) ), Skippy "I'm a flaming idiot" Bayless, and Colin "Cowgirl Cheerleader" Cowherd and take their pronouncements as gospel fact.

The Saints are rested, healthy, and playing like they did to start the year. Of all the teams left in the playoffs, they have the most healthy starters on the field. Payton is a genius, he knew exactly what he was doing, he and his coaching staff, and the TEAM executed it perfectly, and it has put them in the driver's seat in the NFC.

I don't know what will happen next week, I think we all know what I think, and what I HOPE will happen, but the Saints EARNED the #1 seed, they did something NO NFC TEAM EVER DID - WON THEIR FIRST 13 GAMES IN A ROW, and they are the team to beat. Anyone that thinks otherwise is either blind, or a Barney homer. ;)

I don't disappear at all. I just like to taunt the winner with my lackadaisical nature when it comes to paying up. You know I'm good for it... When you gonna git it is a diff'rent story, however. :p
