NFL Week #19

My congrats to the Jets!!!!
They did today what the Colts couldn't do the past 2 seasons.... beat the Bolts!
Thanks NY.

I admit it... I was worried about playing the Chargers in the Championship. The Jets, not nearly as much.

The biggest factor in this game will be the Colts defense vs. the Jets offense. The colts will score some points and I don't think Sanchez is ready yet to carry his team past a very determined Indianapolis Colts team. It's there time again fellas!!!

That was also the general consensus of what San Diego was going to do to them.

I'll be the first to admit, the Jets were looking bad in the first half. Then after the half they turned it around. They got the rushing game going and the defense hurried Rivers and forced turnovers.

I believe the Jets can in fact take down Indy next week. I'm not arrogant enough to say they will get the win, but if they keep playing the way they have been, then the odds of Indy falling are quite good.

This win against SD is just monumental for the Jets confidance. They will be rolling into Indy with a lot of drive and determination

All smack talk aside...

Manning presents an interesting challenge to this defense because of his tactitian like approach and ability to react to what he sees and change things up in the middle of the game to react.

That being said, this team is poised to hand them the upset, because they're all based on the old Parcells philosophy of Field position, clock managment, run the ball and stop the run. The one wrinkle in this team tho is the bold play-calling they use. Both on offense and defense, the Jets are unpredictable and opportunistic.

The defense isn't afraid to attack w/kitchen sink blitzes because of their exceptional secondary, and the ability of Revis to go man for man w/the best and shut them down. Couple that w/Leonard's field vision and Rhodes' speed... the Jets D are gonna show Peyton all kinds of looks. Who knows, maybe this will be the game where Gholston finally shows up @ OLB and executes. (Hey, let me dream!!) Dallas clark is gonna be the biggest issue for them. Look for Eric Smith to be assigned to help out w/that as a spy outta nickle & dime packages. (Expect the usual from Smith... at least 1 blown assignment and/or bonehead play, and 1 or 2 big time change of momentum/possession type play)

I just worry about the NYJ's O being able to keep them in it when coming from behind. I know D'Brick can handle Freeney, he has a history of it. I'm hoping we utilize Cotchery, Keller, and for God's sake get Clowney in there!! Clowney has break away speed, and when coupled w/Edwards will stretch the Colt's D which will allow Keller and/or Cotch to do what they do best.... attack the middle w/crossing routes and make those yards after the catch by exploiting mismatches. If not Clowney, at least Woodhead. Note to Sanchez: Seems like the only way to hit Edwards tho is to put it 3 ft over his head. If ya hit him in the numbers he just drops it, but man he makes some crazy circus catches when they go his way too. Make him reach for 'em. Hard to really know what our rookie QB is really capable of if he's not given the opportunity to spread the ball around a bit, so let's see some more 4 reciever sets and mix up the personell. I'm praying he doesn't cost us w/turnovers. Greene seems to have gotten it together and has solved his problem w/inopportune turnovers, so thats good... and we've all seen what TJ is capable of against the Colts.

*Edit to add: It was nice to see Strickland back in the secondary today. Lito is still a weapon in press coverage, but doesn't have the speed to keep up w/receivers when in 1-on-1 match ups.

I have to say the only game that really surprised me was Chargers - Jets. I thought the Chargers were going to win that game at home for sure.

I am loving how the media is now jumping all over the Vikes (you would have thought they'd beaten the Saints already on Fox). That is just fine, they get to be wrong again!

It's gonna be even funnier when:

1) The Saints mop the field up with the Barneys

2) The Jaguars end up in Los Angeles because their "home fans" are so pathetic

;)

modulusman, your Barneys better show up with their A+++ game next week, or I'm REALLY going to annoy YOU personally.

:D

I was very surprised at the outcome of the Jets-Chargers game. I know all the Jets homers don't like hearing it, but the Chargers looked flat. I figured it would be tough, because the Jets have a very impressive defense, and the difference would be the fact that typically the Jets manage to shoot themselves in the foot on offense. Congrats to staying the course and winning to them. Good luck in Indy, you'll need it - you're not going to get Payton and the starters for less than a half this coming weekend.

As for the media circus baloney around the Vikes, chalk it up to two things:

1) They beat "Uh-murkaz Teem", so they MUST be the best ever
2) Brent FAR-VUH

They were writing off the Saints before the playoffs even began, and were wrong, so they will be used to it when they are again next week.

The Barneys may win next week, but they'll have to put in a full 4 quarters of work to do it, it will not be a repeat of what they had this weekend, any more than the Saints will have such an easy time with the Purple Pustules.

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

:hyper:

I think we made the Chargers look flat. (Man is it so hard to give the Jets credit?? I know Phil Simms can't do it, but sheesh...)

Our front 7 took away the run from the get go, Revis Island was.... well.... Revis Island, Lito did his typical bully thing, Strickland kept up well in coverage, Leonard did what he does best (puts himself in position to cover the soft spots in the zone and freeing up Rhodes to make plays), and Rhodes came in off the edge and disrupted the backfield w/his speed off the line.

On the other side of the ball, Sanchize wasn't stellar (Sometimes I think we reached up to #5 for Rex Grossman), but that O-Line performed and controled the LOS in the run game. Seems like on every other play there was a lineman in a LB's face, and Richardson was even effective in the passing game, as well as all up in the 2nd level when blocking on a run assignment. There was that 1 play where he missed a block in the backfield (play action pass) but I'm not sure if it was actually his, or Greene's assignment on that one.

The Jets don't win pretty... they win by grinding it out @ the LOS and beating opponents down on that front.

I'm not singling you out but you're not the only one that's said or implied this about the Chargers and other teams the Jets have beaten this season. Has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe they looked "flat" because the Jets made them look that way?

NO.. Check out the number of penalty's the Bolts had.
The missed field goals.
Gates dropped passes.
LT being as lifeless as mud.
The onside kick in the last 3 min of the game?? What was NT thinking??

The Bolts shot themselves in the foot and provided the chance for the Jets to beat them by coming to the game a bumbling, unprepared, and unfocused Chargers team. Anyone who actually watched the game saw that, and thats why, here in San Diego, the fans are ripping them a new one. AND THEY BLOODY WELL DESERVE IT!!!!

I'm sorry but I'm not buying what you're trying to sell and here's why. http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=300117024

Turnovers Jets1 SD 2

Jets 1 SD 2

I know the penalties didn't help the cause but San Diego had more passing yards, total yards, and first downs. Not exactly what I would call flat.

The Chargers were all over NY in the first half with their passing game they had a little over 200 yards passing going into the half. After the half it was a completely different story. Near the end of the 3rd quarter NY held San Diego to only 28 yards. Then in the 4th SD had the one drive that gave them the remainder of their passing yards.

The Jets completely shut down the Chargers rushing game from the get go, perhaps LT was "lifeless" because he was consistently shut down?? The Jets defense created turnovers which helped their cause. The only excuse that I'll somewhat buy into is the Chargers kicker sucking but please, give a little credit where credit is due. The Jets defense effected the Chargers overall game.

After the half, the Jets came outta the zone schemes and just went into man coverage. That defensive unit really believes they can match up man-for-man w/ANY team they face.

you just nailed it right there. That was the big difference between the first and second halfs that made the Jets win IMO. The zone D Vs. the options that SD had was just not cutting it. When the Jets lined up man for man is when the SD offense began to get shut down. That was huge in my book.

I love the Jets and cannot wait until next week. Win or lose, they are the underdog champs of the 2009-2010 season and will be a force to be reconed with come next season, mark my words.
