NFL Week #2

Great day of football yesterday. BAL-SD was a fun game, TEN-HOU was exciting, and it's always great to see the Packers lose, and my pity grows even greater for DET. DAL-NYG was fun, and it was nice to see the Jets take it to the Pats and play some great D.

And of course, my favorite game Bears - Steelers. It looked like both teams were following identical game plans - pressure the QB on D and use quick passes and screens to counter the blitz on O. Both Ds were strong against the run, and both QBs did a good job of making plays with guys in their face. But in the end, the crybaby that cost his team the game was Jeff Reed. I have to admit, I was yelling at the screen going "CRY! CRY!" when Reeds little puppy dogs eyes drooped on my TV screen. I know, I should have given the guy a hug instead, he really needed one.

I think the Bears played a great game. They played against one of the best Ds in the league and committed no turnovers and they got only one sack. Bears D played well for not having their best player in the lineup, but their bend but not break D makes me nervous. But, we got a couple of turnovers and key sacks when we needed it.

I think Bears made a great improvement on offense from last week. The receivers seemed to be in better sync, and Cutler wasn't forcing things, and made some great throws. I'm surprised they had Knox active this week considering his performance last week, but it was nice to see him take advantage of the single coverage he was getting all day.

But I think in the end, the Bears proved to be the better team when it comes to playing in the elements that day. When it started raining, the PIT O and special teams sputtered with more drops and miscues. Bears still managed to get some key plays in until Good as Gould could kick the game winner.

What a beautiful Monday morning. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, children playing and Jimminy Cricket is prancing in the field.............

Well that was a disappointment for me. The Pats offense can't seem to pull it together.. Stupid delay of game penalties and other sloppy stuff. Galloway dropped some catchable passes.The Jets are an improved team and Sanchez looked good in the 2nd half. Oh well there are still 14 games to play. Hopefully Brady will get his A game back.

Didn't see that game but wish I would have. Welcome to "middle of the pack" (so to speak) in the NFC Norris, Jong. I think the Pack has a rough stretch ahead with Clifton and Bigby down. You guys seemed to not miss a beat with Urly out. Now, both of us have to have our sights set on taking out the Queens.

I'm STILL P!$$ED that the NFL would let one team market themselves as "America's Team".

Well schucks, not what I hoped for. Jeff Reed is going to catch hell for this, and I suppose he should up to a point. This is a contract year for him, so this is bad news for him as well on the $$$ front. But he could easily boot the game winner next week in Cincy and be the toast of the town, that's football.

How frustrating was it for Troy to stand there in street clothes watching his replacement, Tyrone Carter, get lit up down the stretch? TC made some good plays early on, but started to crumble in crunch time. He'll get better.

Then again, it wasn't like we were going to go 16-0 in the regular season. I hate to lose, but on the road to an NFC team is OK by me.

Huge props to a Chicago team that played damn well. The Steelers very obviously miss Troy. As Mike said, Carter blew it on more than a few plays down the stretch.

I'm with you on Reed too. He seriously looked like he was going to cry. He looked like Deputy Dog. Hahaha! he's a much better kicker than that, and those misses must have killed him. I have to feel bad.

Schramm was a genius, and a respectable business man as well as a respectable person.

Jerry Jones is a POS, and I wish his team nothing but heartache. I hope they can't fill that monument to his pathetic need to be in the limelight by the end of the season because they stink up the field so badly.

And yeah, what is with all the emo brat crybaby QBs in Dall@$$? Aikman is STILL a wussbag, even just being a commentator....

Woot! Only saw the last three minutes of the KC Oakland game, but I saw the minutes that counted. Was that luck, coincidence, or did the Raiders acctually do good the rest of the game?

Yes and No. Yes, their defense looked generally solid. The numbers aren't great simply because the offense was THAT bad to constantly keep the D on the field the whole game. No lie, Frank Gore put up more 10 more offensive yards with ONE run in the Niners/Seahawks game than the Raiders did through 3 quarters on Sunday. JaMarcus Russell looked decent on that last drive but otherwise still looked completely lost and nothing remotely resembling an NFL quarterback.

My Niners are now 2-0 which is a pleasant surprise, after back-to-back wins over last years NFC champs and then the team many picked to win the division. Singletary's team is a far cry from the precision of the West Coast offense of the team's heyday, but they are tough and physical and (thus far) successful. Good stuff.

Despite a P!$$poor sportsmanship last possible second timeout call by the next ex-Cowpatties coach, they still manage to ride Bony Homo's laser accurate passing (3 INT's) to a last second loss.

Can't think of a better way to open that overblown, overpriced monument to Jerry Jones' overgrown ego, a Cowgirls' loss.

Congrats to the Giants, I didn't call the spread, but I don't CARE, any Cowgirls' loss is a beautiful thing.

All in all a pretty good weekend. Saints win, Cowgirls lose, only thing that would have made it better would have been the Foulclowns losing, but hey, they made it close against a really bad Carolina team, so even that was not all that bad.

Your boys will light up the scoreboard like a pinball machine all year long. They will have the best offense in the game...... Then they won't win a championship. Because that's what the Saints are. A decent team, no more, no less, just one of those teams that championship teams beat on the way to the Super Bowl. With a 16 game schedule you have to have at least 16 other teams to play. That's what the Saints are. Cannon fodder for teams that win titles.

we allow some leeway in these football threads because goodnatured ribbing is part of being a fan, but wishing for something that cost many innocent people their lives is really pretty low.

It's like the swallows back to capistrano. We have a nice NFL thread going, there is some good natured ribbing going on, then somebody mentions the Cowboys. It's like shouting "Niagra Falls" to Gard, and what soon follows is pure venom, complete with homophobic references (I could have sworn that was against the rules).

I'm happy to do my part........ I've posted my first grade "he started it!" post....... I'm happy to move on
