NFL Week #4

there's more to it than money. For instance the NFL wants the refs to become full-time NFL employees, but the ref's have other full-time jobs or other part time jobs they don't want to give up. Sooo, they want their $50Kake and eat it too. Screw the refs.

abso freakin' lutely

the game may be suffering, but it is directly because of the behavior of the refs.

if they don't want the job, the substitute refs will learn and life will go on.

A little better info than "Screw the refs"

Goodell works for the 32 owners. You can blame them too ya know. He;s only representing them.

Here's what I understand from what I've read: the ref's are not NFL employees, yet they have a union, they are essentially part-time employees, who are resisting becoming full time employees because of their own vested interest in other companies, they want more money (which they already make a pretty penny), and don't want a 401K, but a pension plan. They JUST agreed to the "mentoring" part of the issue today, because they didn't want the NFL to be able to "bench" them for bad play. Right?

Edit: they want to have a ref's NFL salary for the rest of their days and don't want to pay in? No go.

A pension is paid into as deferred compensation. They
"pay in" with their labor and generally take less of a salary as a result. Pensions aren't free gifts they are deferred compensation. With what I've seen through 3 weeks they are worth every penny. Compare their compensation to someone who is the best of something on the planet, not your own salary.

You Packer fans are missing a point. If they had played better and scored more points, that call wouldn't have mattered. Like they say in the UFC, never leave it in the judges hands. Stop crying and get ready for the next game. ALL NFL teams have beeen boned by a bad call at one time or another. Get the frig over it and stop crying.

8 sacks in 1 half, really ?

Not missing anything. Just think it's a lame point. What happened during the game happened. There were other bad calls both ways all the way through and yes Rodgers got sacked 8 times in the first half. In the second half the Packers beat the Seahawks. All that matters in the final score when the clock runs out and the refs screwed that up badly.

So does this mean once the real officials come back all you guys will stop crying about the officials?

-Mike

Not me. I've seen plenty of horrible calls by the "real" officials. My feeling is similar to Kawai-Chang's. The "real" officials have been sitting there giggling gleefully at the many gaffes by the replacements. All the criticism of the replacements has caused the general public to automatically side with the "real" officials. So all of a sudden, those same officials who have frequently been vilified in years past can now do no wrong. They now walk on water. ("Oh PLEASE come back to us, you wonderful officials! We NEED you and we miss you!!!")

Have the replacements screwed up a lot. Absolutely. But they are trying to do the best job they can. I don't have a lot of sympathy for the "real" ones. They have a pretty sweet gig for a part-time job. The League would LIKE them to become full-timers, but they don't want to do that. Yet they want all the benefits of full-time employees. I know I appear to be in the minority on this, but that's how I see it. All this hand-wringing just solidifies their greedy position. But yes, there is plenty of greed to go around in the NFL...

I don't think it takes a Packers fan who is honest enough about the result to be outraged. Just because all teams have the potential for this doesn't mean the "point" is shut up and deal. The factual point is the games are as close to unwatchable as anything a profession sports franchise is putting out there. The NFL, in what can only be described as "lawyer speak", defended the call on the field. They look like class "a" fools for having done so as anyone without a vested interest in that game or it's potential to affect business as usual could see that was an interception.

This was a media darling that was shafted, so naturally the NFL is "close" to having a deal done now. The can see a real fan boycott potentially happening as a result of all the games through three weeks. It wasn't 1 or 2 incidents like the NFL hoped for. It's been a chaotic sham of a game many thousands pump a billion dollars into.

This is my point. All the people, myself included, calling for the NFL to agree to whatever the real refs want and bring them back ASAP. What will happen when one of those real refs makes a mistake and costs someone a game?

I don't have sympathy for the refs either. Greed, greed, greed all around. Players, refs, owners, coaches, whoever.

^ ha!

I've not enough pride to boycott the NFL as of yet...I just hope Peyton Manning still hasn't figured it out and Oakland gets a win! .500 baby!

Well, last game, it wasn't Manning who hadn't figured it out, it was the Bronco's defensive secondary. Manning nearly brought them back.

But what the hell, Denver may as well spot Oakland the perfunctory 20 points and, you know, see what happens.

The fact that regular refs make mistakes doesn't take away from how exponentially more horrible these replacements are. It's not one play, it's every game. It's getting unwatchable.
This. Of course the regular refs aren't perfect and will continue to make mistakes.

But really, some of you can't see the difference this year? Marking off the wrong number of yards multiple times, not making an official call before going to replay, not discussing a call when two refs disagree, losing control of the game, hemming and hawing so much that games are dragging and losing all rhythm? Really?

well, if you are in a minority, it includes me.

You'll be eatin those words come Sunday. Were I a bettin man, I'd bet you on it :D

Palmer is due to slump this game cuz he was passably ( HA! ) decent last week. Run DMC needs to keep rollin' though. My fantasy team requires it :D

I am so tired of dinkin and dunkin to McFadden all game long. Looks like Denarius Moore is back; hopefully Carson Palmer will have enough trust in his wideouts to spread it around a litte bit more!
