The Steelers first played in the NFL in 1933, so they're as old school as it gets - one of the original 10 teams, of which only 5 are still playing.

They won their first division title in 1972, 39 years after they started playing. The New Orleans Saints did that in 1991, 24 years, some 15 years FASTER than the Steelers did so. The Steelers then made it to the AFC Championship game, which they lost in 1972. This the Saints did in exactly the same amount of time the Steelers did.

They won their first Super Bowl in 1973, so they did do that a bit sooner in their history.

However, you should be careful about tossing all your history at me, as I am a Steelers fan too, and was BEFORE they had such a storied run of winning in the 70's, heck I was a Steelers fan before there was a Saints team to be a fan of! My mother was born a stone's throw from Pittsburgh, my grandfather played football for Pitt, I have a history with the Steelers that goes back to before I was born, and I know the team very well.

My Saints are doing just fine, thankyouverymuch, and to those that think they are just some nevergonnagetthere team, take note of the frustrations of the Steelers, and who they are today.

History cycles, and it is our turn now.

One big difference Bro. Steelers got a six pack of them gold footballs with that old Packers coaches name on them. I doubt in the day of free agency that the Saints will ever catch them in that reguard. They're running on al cylinders thus far but they've been here before:D

Oh, and I'm not predicting anything (yet), but while we're comparing records, let's take a look at the Saints next opponent, the 5-0 Giants:

Giants opponents combined records:

Washington 2-3
Dallas 3-2
Tampa Bay 0-5
Kansas City 0-5
Oakland 1-4

Who have THEY beat? One mediocre team (Dallas) and 4 doormats with a combined record of 6-19?

SIX AND NINETEEN!?

Oh, and they didn't exactly impress in their wins against Washington (23-17) or Dallas (33-31), did they?

I'm not sayin' anything yet, that's for tomorrow, but believe me, that's the windup.

Actually, the vast majority of media did not. I don't read every sports news source, but SI, ESPN, Fox Sports, Sporting News, and Profootballtalk all generally guessed the Cowboys would finish somewhere around 9-7. About half of the sources thought that they would make the playoffs, but never the championship games, and the other sources thought that they would not make the playoffs.

For those saying that the media picked the Cowboys for a SB run, do you have sources? The general sentiment regarding the team, before the season, that I observed was that they had lost more than they had gained, and that people were not sure how they would respond. I actually found the media to be relatively level-headed in regards to their thoughts, (although the same media that loved to harp on Owens' divisiveness in the locker room berated the team for cutting him).

all kidding aside, i really hope the saints do run the tables this year. i've never been an nfc guy, but i've always felt bad for them.

My "regular" teams are doing well (Colts) and fair (Steelers). I want the Steelers to do well, but I want them to earn it, which means running and defense. My recent "I like these guys lately" teams are doing well (Giants) and fair (Cards). The teams I pull for because I think they deserve to win after years of mediocrity/suckage and because I think their coaches are good guys are doing well (Saints and Bengals). I'd love to see the Lions rise up a little bit after the debacle of last year. The teams I don't like because I've never liked them are still decent, but are no longer "dynasty/destiny" teams (Pats/Ravens/Cowboys), which is great. I'll pull for the underdog most other days unless it's the Raiders or the Bucs, who just flat out suck. St. Louis has disgusted me ever since they let Warner go. I feel bad for the Chiefs just because they're so bad.

Having said all of that, I'm enjoying the season a lot. :)

Don't get me wrong, I dun hate the Colts or the Steelers. I love them as I love my greatest and most respected enemy.

And I didn't care much for Leftwich either. As luck would have it, the very day I bought my first jersey (a number 7, by golly), Jack cut him. News broke less than five minutes after I bought it.

It was one of their nice classic white away jersies, not the ******** black alt uniform top they suddenly started wearing all the time for some reason.
