To me, that indicates a coaching staff that is very good at pregame scouting and scripting the beginning of games, but is very poor at making adjustments and managing the game.

how about that Lions-Bears game?

I admit i am biased because Jay Cutler is a Vandy man, but I don't see how he has even survived to this point.

are the Bears really that poor on the offensive Line? or are the Lions that Good?

maybe both, but given the incredible number of false start penalties on the Bears, combined with Cutler getting hit hard virtually every time he throws, I have to admire him.

The Lions may be that good, but the Bears O line sux. I don't know when I have seen more p**s poor blocking.

The Lions are that good, and the Bears are that bad. The Lions have the best pass rush in the NFL right now. And I say that because they can get it from their front four. They do not need to Blitz to get to the QB. They also stop the run, Forte had a decent game, but he didn't explode the way he did last week. The Lions haven't given up a 100 yard rushing game this year.

But, I did claim last year that the Bears were the luckiest division champion I ever saw, last year. Not so lucky this year. The Bears better figure out how to protect the QB quick. They still have to stop Clay Matthews and Jared Allen before the seasons over. Plus they'll face Suh again too.

That's a tough one. There's no question the Lions are for real. But...they have only beat one team with a winning record (Tampa at 3-2). Teams playing the Lions have gone 10-14 if my math is right.

The Pack is in the same boat. Again if my math is right, the Pack has beat teams that have gone 10-18. Strikingly similar, the Pack has only played one team with a winning record.

I'm not ready to go that far just yet. When you win the Super Bowl and your QB is Aaron Rodgers, you do get a say in that.

But I do get the feeling the Lions offense and defense hasn't reached its potential yet. And that does have to put fear in the hearts of coordinators around the league. On offense, I think their passing game can become as good as anyones as Stafford learns to read defenses. Only GB has comparable weapons. On defense, the DB's have played good and better than expected, but I'd still like to see them jump more routes with the pass rush they have. Of course tonight their best pass interception man (Spivey) was out with day to day injury.

But right both now the Patriots and the Packers have a better offense. And I would put the Lions in-between those teams at this point in the season, slightly ahead of the Pats, whose D still needs work, but behind GB.

I think the thing a lot of people are missing about the Lions is their depth at D-Line and the 9 man rotation that they have been using. All 9 of them are tough and they are all very fresh in the second half. A lot of people are discounting their "lucky" comebacks but it's not so much luck as it is huge depth and a great plan from the coaching staff. TB is the only team that has really done anything offensively against them in the second half all season and that is mostly cause the Lions were up by a bunch and they went prevent the whole second half. Granted, the offense needs to get off to some better starts but I think you'll see the Lions shutting down teams in the second half all season long because of the D-Line rotation.

Fantastic game last night, and great weekend in general. It makes me happier than I can express to see the Lions and Bills tearing it up this year, but the Lions especially played great last night. The city of Detroit was on fire, and the defense was smothering. I would have felt bad for Cutler, but he flopped twice in the first quarter - once when he faked a hard fall to get a personal foul for roughing and another time on an unabated neutral zone infraction where he barely got touched and started faking concussion symptoms - and by the second half he was getting the karmic payback for real. The Lions front line is for real. If they can cut back on the penalties, they can do a lot of things.

Heck, even Cincinnati looked better this year than they have in past years. I'm so glad the Johnson/Palmer dog and pony show is over and they can get back to just playing football. Carolina is a few plays away from a winning record thanks to their new kid on the block, and they came about as close as you can come to knocking off the Saints on Sunday. And while watching Indy has been painful this year, it really does underscore what a masterful player Manning has been for all these years. They've been in most of their games, but can't sustain drives, which wears out their defense, which leads to 0-5 even though the kid playing QB has had a few moments. And the Eagles look absolutely terrible, which suits me just fine for now after all of that "dream team" nonsense. Dream teams win on the field, not on paper. The league appears to have come out of the lockout stronger than ever. Good season so far.

Maybe so, but the Lions got in some cheap shots as well that weren't called--including one time Cutler's head was slapped into the turf by Young (first time I've seen him play, he seems like a jerk) after he sacked him. In any case, despite his past wankery, I have to admit Cutler played a whale of a game considering he had to run for his life on virtually every play.

I'll give him that. The Bears' O-line is leakier than the post-iceberg titanic hull. He showed a lot of poise after the first quarter - I just don't dig flops in any sport.

I hear you on flops. Anyone else see the one that led to AJ Hawk's unsportsmanlike penalty? Falcons lineman, I dunno who, shoves Hawk in the back after the whistle. Hawk turns around and shoves him back. Falcons lineman throws himself on the ground like Cristian Ronaldo. Hawk was a dumbass for retaliating, but my God...this is the NFL. A flop is not acceptable. Hawk said after the game, "I wish I was strong enough to make him fall like that!"
