NFL Week #8

This should be an interesting week ... the Superbowl Champion New York Football Giants go to Pittsburgh for the first real test this year against a very strong Steelers team. The Steelers have all the potential of seriously smacking the Giants in the head, and I have a feeling that's exactly what will happen.

The match-ups between the defenses will tell the tale for this game. Both teams have QB's that can move the ball, both teams have RB's that can push the line, yet they both have defenses that have proven they can put major pressure on the O's and shut down the running game. I think this will come down to which QB has the better day, and right now that leans towards Roethlisberger, not Manning.

Just looking at their respective schedules to date, with both at 5-1, the "toughness" factor goes slightly towards the Steelers. Giants have scored more points (170) than the Steelers (121), but the Giants have also allowed more points (101) with Pittsburgh's D being more aggressive (89 against).

These might be the two best teams in the NFL right now (doesn't hurt that they're also my 2 faves :D) and the way the season is shaking out they could possibly be the two in the Superbowl. For all intents and purposes, they are the same types of teams with the same blue collar defense-driven mindset, so it's going to come down to who wants it more. I think the Steelers have more heart right now than the Giants, and as much as it pains me to say so, I see a tough game with the final .... PIT 24, NYG 20

The New York Jets are seeing the Favre(Farve??) dream blowing up around them. Favre(Farve??) may indeed be a mythical football genuis, but the Jets don't have the skill set to make up for erratic play by the QB. That said, if the Jets lose at KC it will be the beginning of the end for this season. Jets in a must win blowout, or else it's totally over .... NYJ 34, KC 10

We got the Giants. We can stop the run, and Manning is so-so at best. He isn't mobile, and does not have a quick release. The Giant defense has me slightly concerned. But the only guy I am worried about is Tuck, and Big Ben can take him out if he needs to. :D

I have decided to adopt a second team. A team out West I can cheer for since Steeler games are morning games out here anyway, and I need someone to pay attention to in the afternoon. I am going to jump on the Pittsbugh West bandwagon......also known as the Arizona Cardinals!

The Arizona roster is full of former Steeler coaches and players. Heck....when Arizona beat Dallas, a former Steeler blocked the punt and a former Steeler returned it for a touchdown! Boo-YEAH!! Go Pittsburgh West!

Mike, I love ya like an interwebz brother, but you need to be more than slightly concerned by the Giants D ... they are every bit as formidable as the Steelers, probably more so in some areas. And with the Steelers O-line getting penetrated more regularly than Paris Hilton, I wouldn't be taking the NYG defense so lightly ... ;)

That said, I agree with the rest of your assessment .... I think the Steelers come out on top this week ....

Alright, alright....in the spirit of the Department of Homeland Security........I know raise the threat leavel of the Giants defense to Orange. Instead of slightly concerned, I am now concerned. :D

They can get to Ben all they want, he won't get hurt. Philly, Jax, and Baltimore threw their best at him, and he is still standing. Bring it on Tuck!

Packerguy...what are your thoughts? I'm wondering if the DB's chemistry is going to get screwed up by the return of Harris and Bigby. The DB's played their best game of the year by far yesterday. Tramon Williams is turning into a really good corner. I think with him, we have the replacement for Harris or Woodson...whoever retires first. Aaron Rouse has had some bad plays, but he's had some great ones too. I hope they don't take a step backwards with the two starters returning. I certainly like the prospects of our nickel defense with Woodson, Harris, Williams, Collins, and Bigby out there.
Nick Collins is finally realizing his potential and turning into a stud. He's been hitting like Bigby, and been great in pass coverage.

Cheeze I'm right there with you. Rouse and Williams have been admirable fill-ins for Harris and Bigby and I am somewhat concerned that they won't be in "football shape" upon there return. Then again, there are reasons they are starters. Maybe, hopefully, Harris and Bigby's returns will be partial immersion such that Rouse and Williams still get a lot of snaps.

Oh boy...did any of youn'z catch poor little Kellen Winslow whining today? He said he feels like a piece of meat sometimes. Loyalty goes both ways pal. He sounds awfully wimpy for being a self described Warrior.

Tough to call, when the Saints D is PLAYING, they're stout against the run and can put pressure on a less mobile QB, so they could show up big against the Bolts O.

The Bolts D is hurting, and if the Saints can figure out what the HECK happened to their offense, they should be able to score early and often on them. Bush being out won't be an excuse, they should be able to move the ball on the ground with Deuce, and they have enough receivers to go 'round. If Brees gets his head on straight, and based on past experience, he's beating the snot out of himself this week already, he will be strong next week, he's not known for back-to-back bad games - plus, this is the team that said he couldn't be a factor, and he will want to show them up.

Ain't nothing wrong with that. At least you're not like the other guy fixing to bail on his team. I hope your Saints win too.

Besides the Steelers beating the Giants, I'm hoping Pittsburgh West can come home from Carolina with a victory. They handled the Saints pretty easily, so this will be tough for Whiz and his guys.

Thanks dude...sorry I got testy earlier, I'm pretty P!$$ED at my team right now.

Steelers will have their hands full, but I think they'll prevail against the Giants this week. Tough game though!

As for "Pittsburgh West" against Carolina, well, Carolina is hot and cold. They laid an absolute egg in Tampa recently, and despite all the Yuckers around these parts thinking otherwise, they ain't all that...Carolina caught the Saints snoozing, if the Cards come in hot, they can definitely take the Panthers, but it won't be easy...unlike beating the Cowgirls was...

(...I know I shouldn't, but I can't help but be cheered by the state of football in Big D right now...;) )

Shockey and Winslow, what a pair! The Hurricanes' tight ends this decade must have had some extra-special douche training each summer.

No clue.........No earthly idea what to expect from my guys Sunday. Ya'll wouldn't believe how everybody's freaking out down here. It's one of the perks of being a Cowboy fan..... When they're good it's fun 'cause your team's doing well. When they're losing the local reaction is so entertaining. I've heard, in the last 24 hours: Fire Wade, fire Stewart (def. coordinator), fire Garrett, Jerry sell the team, Stephen (Jerry's son) should take over, cut Romo (didn't play!!), etc.....

I've also heard (I'm serious): The Rams got lucky, the refs did it, when our hurt guys get back we'll win out, etc......:p

The Cows have shown me nothing to make me think this is possible but here we go............
