I'm wondering how this is going to shape up myself. There is quite the log jam at D. I really hope they don't give up on Coburn. I say trade Mesz for a pick to get under the cap for opening day. They are currently sitting slightly over a million over the cap according to capgeek. Once they get Pronger on the LTIR that will knock another 4mil off their payroll. But it appears that they have to wait until opening day.

I'm happy with the Emery deal. I liked him on his first go round and he had seemed to cleaned up his attitude at that point. The Flyers took a chance on him and he did well for a short while. If not for the hip injury he could have been a Flyer for a number of years.

I'm shocked about the Alfredsson deal. Is Detroit really that much better than Ottawa in the eastern conference?

It is going to be interesting seeing how Detroit fits into the Eastern Conference play. East versus West is a different style of play.

I really thgouth Alfredsson would stay in Ottawa to finish out his career. Guess not. Can't wait to see his first game back in Ottawa.

Guys correct me if I'm wrong but from my house; Homer has just put together a playoff caliber team.

The 3 signings (Vinny/Streight/Razor) come in around a million less than the savings the Flyers gained by buying out Bryz an Briere.

Time will tell but I think Homer has managed to save his job.

What line will Alfie play in Detroit? Have to admit I'm not incredibly familiar with them since the 09 SCF. Seeing Alfie play with Datsyuk would certainly be awesome.

I think we need a goalie that gels well with his defense and D guys that can move the puck. Between Streight, Gus (I think he needs to re-sign still as well as develop more) and Timmo; paired up with the stay at home guys Grossman, Coburn and Schenn and you put the D in a position to succeed. These types of dynamic pairings just weren't happening last year since we were all panicking about Bryz not being able to stop a beach ball.

Both Mason and Emery can handle and move the puck. That is something the Philly defense sorely lacked last year. It caused to entire team to come back into the zone and play deeper, making breakouts that much more difficult.

We got a small sampling of the difference in the few games Mason played lasy year.

I'm with you; considering how entertaining it was to watch coots pester Malkin.

Flyers sign G Yann Danis for the Phantoms. Looks like they get some insurance. I'm anxious on what they are gonna do for defense.

He certainly did that quite well. He has many facets to his game that let him fit a lot of roles, and he's a good young talent. Is Shattenkirk worth giving that up? Maybe...

Emery is in at $1.75mil for one year. Philly is announcing it as official. Gonna be a good fit. He was good last time around until the hip thing hit. Was making an awesome year in Chicago last year.
