NHL 2013 regular season thread!

The Broons looked fairly well-composed tonight. Tuukka wasn't challenged all that much but looked very calm and seasoned. What a long weekend. B's tonight, Pats in AFC Championship tomorrow, and a matinee against Winnipeg Monday at 1 PM. Then we get the Rangers again on Wednesday.

Ugh... Caps laid a massive egg tonight. No flow on offense or defense, and Holtby was all alone holding down the fort.

Caps are one of the teams that got hurt most by the offseason; having a new coaching staff and no time to practice the new game strategies is definitely going to hurt, particularly with the increased pace of the season.

Hopefully it's not too painful of a year...

Well, I did get to see most of the 3rd period of the Pens/Flyers after they switched over from the other game. I don't know how they played in the first two periods, but I thought they played a strong 3rd. Just couldn't get one home to tie it though. Simmonds had a real good chance on a feed from Giroux, but I think he clanked it of the pipe. Pens also looked good. I'm just glad to have it back again...

Wow. Refs sure screwed us over on two goals today.

Yeah, I was gonna' mention that, but figured I'd be accused of being a homer. But you're right. Two goals disallowed, both of which looked good, even to the announcers. They WERE both close calls; but it sucks that they both went against the Flyers.

I thought they played a good game, aside from the first 15 minutes. But they were only down 1-0 after the 1st period, so I felt okay. They turned it on in the 2nd. Had those calls gone properly, they would have almost certainly had at least one point.

Flyers just need to put in three periods per game instead of two. Then they'll be OK.

Anyone monitoring the golatending situation in Vancouver? Corey Schneider supposed to be the number one, gets yanked in favor of Luongo, crowd goes nuts chanting Lu, Lu, Lu. GM gets miffed at the coach over it. Hilarious!

Rangers' Lundqvist got yanked against the Pens in favor of Biron last night after giving up 4 goals on the first 30 minutes of the game.

The reason is because it's well known Luongo will get traded. The GM doesn't want him to get injured or else it kills all chances of getting a deal. I can understand his frustration, but the coach's job is to win games and Schneider wasn't doing a great job that night.

To be fair, the D was pretty bad in that game.

It's gonna be a wild 48 game season. D's are gonna be awful early on. This protecting players until they can be traded or bought out is gonna be killer along with the hangman's noose of that cap bite back if the player retires early on the back diving deals.

Pretty much. Another example of the NHL screwing a city out of a team. Needless to say I'm quite biased, but atlanta was a big hockey supporting city, despite what the NHL claimed. Nearly every Friday and Saturday game was full. I had season tickets for two years at the end there. The Thrashers were just constant victim to incompetent ownership. They had begun getting way better at the end too.

A big joke on top of it is that my father is actually a corporate painter and he finished painting the Spirit (owners) high rise offices Thrashers colors about 2 or 3 months before they moved.

Ah well, I'm just another heartbroken hockey fan.

Shanaban warming up and getting ready to suspend his first Flyer of the season:

Such BS.

It was an aggressive play to try and fire his team up. Its not like he dove at the dudes head. No penalty, no injury, no harm no foul. This is why I like Brayden tho, last years playoffs he stepped up and was a very physical offensive presence and he should keep it up. Flyers have always been a smash mouth team and he fits in just fine. Shannahan is just going to turn hockey into curling. ./facepalm

Sorry, but I think you guys are watching that with some orange tinted glasses. Looks like he left his feet and also lead with the elbow to the head. I don't think Schenn was intentionally trying to head hunt, but that's how the play resulted. Players have been suspended for less.

I think it could go either way. I don't necessarily think he should be suspended, but with the rules in place and the hits they've suspended players for in the past, I would not be surprised nor outraged if he's suspended.

Four points in three games, and we picked up a win over Suter and the boys. Looks like we're coming together as a team. I'm really excited by the flashes we've shown, but how close the games are is kind of troubling. All the games we've played in have been 1 goal contests deep in the third or have went to overtime.
