NHL 2013 regular season thread!

If Boston wins tonight, the Habs will play the Leafs. If the Sens win, it'll be the Sens.

I don't believe playing the Islanders is a possibility at this point.

Thanks, Strat. I'm feeling less generous now that the B's are the 4 seed and am perfectly happy to wait until next year for a Habs-Leafs playoff. ;)

I listened to part of B's-Sens and then watched from the end of the second. Pretty typical B's game, spot the opponents 2 goals, then catch up. Sometimes the B's score the third goal and sometimes it is the opponent - this time the Sens scored late and put it away with an empty-netter. Sens earned the victory; B's have lost their scoring touch (and they don't have much scoring touch even in their wins) and need to find it in a hurry.

As far as predictions - I'll go with a chalk Eastern Conference - I have no idea what is happening in west. B's seem to have Toronto's number - so as far as playoff opponent (Sens or Leafs), the loss last night is not that big of a deal - where it hurts is with home ice in the next round should the B's be fortunate enough to advance. I think they will - Lucic is finally playing the way he was expected to and the goaltending continues to be solid. The B's are the third best team in the Conference so they'll need some luck to advance to the conference finals. After Toronto (which will probably go seven); the B's would be a big underdog against the Pens and a slight underdog against the Canadiens.

I don't get a chance to watch much Western Conference hockey, so my west picks aren't based on much.

Chicago over Minnesota
Anaheim over Detroit
Vancouver over San Jose
LA over St Louis

Hard for me to pick any upsets. A #5 beating a #4 isn't much of an upset either. I could see the Sharks taking out the Canucks, all depends on what Sharks team shows up. If Howard gets hot, Detroit may give the Ducks a run for their money, but Jimmy can't do it by himself. I don't think the Wild stand a chance against the Hawks.

Pittsburgh over New York Islanders
Montreal over Ottawa
New York Rangers over Washington
Toronto over Boston

Rangers are a little scary right now. Caps are decent with some good young talent, but I don't think Ovi + a few others are enough to carry them in a 7 game series against the Rags. Toronto over Boston may be a stretch, but I don't think Boston has much confidence right now. I think the Canadiens will slap around the Sens, and while the Islanders may take one or two games from the Pens I don't think it will be very close.

While I think Anaheim is a better team, I wouldn't bet against the Wings in this one. They have learned how to get stingy in the goals against category. And Howard is hot at the right time. They have as good of a chance as the 8th seed in the West did last year.:D

Oh Wait:hiding:

The Penguins haven't made a peep in the playoffs since they won the cup in 2009. Looking up and down the roster, it's almost insane to pick against them, especially if Crosby plays. Still, I can't trust Fleury. I'm not confident Fleury can be the lockdown goalie he is going to need to be to carry the Penguins to another SC.

You mean the guy who went 23-8 this season and has a Stanley Cup ring? Yeah, we will see ;)

I guess I just don't see one wild playoff series from last year enough reason to discredit a Stanley Cup Champion goalie.

I'm with Laz on this one. Even in the playoffs the Pens will score goals. The B's need (and might get) great goaltending because they are only going to score 1 or 2 a night themselves. The Pens can win games giving up 2 or 3 goals (not saying that they will give up that many, just that they can prevail anyway); the B's can't.

Yep, that's the guy. I don't have time to pull his playoff stats from 2010-2012, but I don't think they are anything we want to brag about. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not getting my hopes up again. I'm still scarred from last year and Philly. :)

2013 EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS.
My predictions.
Ottawa vs Montreal - Montreal in 5 games
Toronto vs Boston - Boston in 6 games
Rangers vs Washington - Rangers in 6 games
I'll get hell for this but. Islanders vs Pittsburgh - Islanders in 7
Gut feeling. stanley cup finals. Blues vs rangers or islanders. In any case the islanders and rangers will face-off and yes blues will beat the Blackhawks .
LETS GO RANGERS.
