NHL 2013 regular season thread!

Perhaps, but I'm *way* more interested in how Hamilton will be next season (and the season after that).

Every game should be about winning regardless of the circumstances.

That's something the Senators might want to re-read, by the way.

It'd be great to face anybody but the Bruins because it seems that when the Habs get into the Playoffs, that Boston is automatically who they face. Rivalries are interesting to a degree, but it'd be nice to get some variety, once in a while.

I'm personally a lot more interested in the Jets. They're fighting for access to the Playoffs and so far are doing a good job. It's a dynamic group that gives it their all every night. Ladd is a studd and I thought at this stage of his career, he was too injury-prone to be played that often. Glad he proved me wrong.

Go Jets!

Habs-B's is always fun but I'm feeling generous these days and wouldn't mind Toronto getting in on the Hab action. It is odd that the two Canadian Original Six teams have not met in a playoff since 1979 - there is a whole generation of fans who have never had that experience. I understand that all of Canada would be watching (but maybe a third would be rooting for both sides to lose ;)).

What is going on with the Northeast division?

NOBODY seems to want to win, anymore? The Habs, the Bruins, and the Leafs are mostly losing, now. Very strange that it seems all synchronized. lol

On another note, will Detroit sneak into the Playoffs? They have one game in hand on Columbus who is 1 point higher and in the last Playoff spot.

I feel like this is a pretty regular occurrence. Often times; teams that were hot in the first half of the season cool off in the 2nd half and vice versa. The only difference is; we only got one half of a season so if you pick the last half of the season to catch fire; you screwed cause you ran out of time. Those that historically tend to cool of in January and February benefit from the shortened season.

I realize that all teams got their season cut short, didn't benefit from a preseason or training camps, etc etc...some did fine,...others not so much. It is what it is,...but I still feel a bit jaded as a result of the lockout.

It sure does. Detroit usually cranks it up as the playoffs draw near, but there may not be time for that this year.

Well they have a one point lead over the Blue Jackets and each team has two games left. Could get interesting. They played terrible on their last road trip, but looked pretty good tonight. Kromwell has definitely become one of the better D men in the league. But the Wings are the fourth worst team in the league in scoring. They just don't have any real skilled goal scorers.

I've been a B's fan for some 42 years and I can't say a bad word about the Red Wings. Just an organization that seems to go about things the right way, and man have they done well over the past 15 years.

That said, I'm happy to see what a turnaround that Columbus has made. It's too bad that it appears that it's either Columbus or Detroit for that 8 seed. And good like with the Hawks...

???

I'm a little disappointed to see that nobody has posted anything when lots of things happened.

  • The Jets have officially been eliminated from the Playoff participation since the Sens & Rangers won their games. Really too bad since that franchise deserves a whole lot better and especially considering the fact that this team, due to a technicality, was inserted in the opposite division which resulted in extremely exaggerated travel times! This will be rectified next year. Players stated that on top of not being able to carry practices in a lot of cases, they also didn't have much time to sleep!

  • What about Karlsson? Man, what a monster player! Only 10 weeks after having 70% of his ACL cut, he comes back MUCH quicker than expected and played over 26 min in his first game back... and gets 2 points! Much respect for that guy.

  • NYR and the Sens both clinch a Playoffs spot, a feat especially impressive for the injury-riddled Sens, a team that lost ALL of its stars (unless you consider Alfredsson a superstar) on the LTIR list for significant amount of time ; Karlsson, Michalek, Spezza,... Paul MacLean deserves the Jack Adams award for sure.

  • Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed that Bryzgalov won't be bought-our during the off-season... just as I suspected.

  • Kessel is on FIRE!! 17 points in the last 10 games, including 9 goals! Yaow!

I'm very happy that Karlsson is back. He is a great player, fun to watch, and the NHL is better with players of his caliber on the ice and not in street clothes.

However, why is everyone calling this a miraculous recovery, instead of a misdiagnosis? I'm no doctor, but I have a hard time believing his Achilles tendon (not his ACL) was almost completely cut, and the guy is 100% in two months...

Here's a funny one.

Randy Hahn of the San Jose Sharks was given the best speeding ticket ever: $99 on Wayne Gretzky Drive! LOL!

Obviously you haven't been following the Flyers for very long. The organization is known for saying one thing and then doing another. They have to.

Look at the Richards/Carter contracts/trades for example. "These guys are our core... we want them around for a long time... etc., etc..."

Laviolette is supposedly safe as well. The Philadelphia media will probe with many questions. Do you think Holmgren will just give out all his plans just because someone asks?

I understand all of that as all teams do so. Nevertheless, I thought it was at the very least interesting that this was specifically pointed out, so I figured I might as well post it here. :)

As for the alleged misdiagnosis, I highly doubt that this is what happened. His Achilles tendon was 70% severed but was reattached. Don't forget that these people are athletes and as such will occasionally display quicker rehabilitation than us mortals. For instance, Pacioretty had a fractured neck vertebrae and was back a lot quicker than originally predicted. Same deal when he had an appendectomy. Normal recovery time is 4-6 to resume normal activity. He was out for *4 GAMES!*

It happens.

They have almost a full year to buy Bryz out yet and I'm actually beginning to think this is what they may do (even though I wish they'd do it as soon as this season finally ends for them). They may just keep him around for another season to see how Mason works out and see how Bryzgalov works out without such a high workload. That may raise his trade value or just cut down on his buyout cost.

Things are really starting to point toward Briere being bought out. Hate to see him go but his cap hit over the next two years is too high for what he's brought in the regular season lately. He's done a lot for Philly but it may be time for him to move on.

I agree. On the Boston talk radio stations one host stated that if the Bruins are "one and done" this year Claude will not be back next year. The team looks lifeless lateley (not last night as much, but the last few games). We shall see.....
