The Wings re-signed Tomas Tatar for 3 years, avg cap hit of $2.75 mil. I think it's a good signing, as he has good hand, and brings a lot of energy to the ice. He had 19 goals last year in 73 games, and if he gets top six minutes could easily get 25-30 imho. The big kicker is he'll have one more year of RFA when it expires.

The Pens avoided arbitration with Nick Spaling, and signed him to a two year deal. In my opinion, they paid more for potential than production here, but I hope it works out. He is younger and can do more than the other two free agents they signed to play those lines.

Rutherford claims he prefers these short term contracts, but I think he's been told to do it so the next GM isn't all tied up with long contracts when he takes over for Rutherford.

Subban gets eight years and stays in Montreal.
Ben Bishop signs on for two more years in Tampa Bay, good move by the Lightning.
Robin Lehner gets three eyars to stay in Ottawa.
I saved the best news for last, Anaheim is going to retire their first player number, Teemu Selanne. I like how the ceremony is going to be at the home game against Winnipeg.

Wow, a Pens player decided to stay in Pittsburgh. Brandon Sutter signed for two more years. Rumor has it he wanted one so he could bolt after next season, which is why I think the Pens added a little extra cash so he would commit to two years. I like the signing. Maybe heavy on salary, but he was one of the few stars in the playoffs for the Pens last year. I'm happy.

As for the outdoor game in California, it seems weird to me.

I just saw the news about Timonen, that is really a bummer. As you probably remember, former Pens goalie Tomas Vokoun had the same issue. He is still trying to get back on an NHL roster.

Well at least Philly made a proactive move and signed Del Zotto. I like that guy, and Philly got 15 years younger on D.

I watched the entire "Behind the B" series on the Boston Bruins. It made me respect them as a team that's able to prove themselves day in and day out. While, yes, I hate some of the players on that team, it doesn't make me hate the actual team. There are ninety plus years of Bruins history; many icons and heroes played for the B and the team's championship history is pretty impressive.

I may start watching them this upcoming season along with the LA Kings...just to see what they're like during a game that's not so intensified by the playoffs..

The talk of bringing an NHL team to Seattle is starting up again. As much as I would like it, I believe it would be a failure. To give you an idea how clueless people are in Seattle about the NHL, here is a screenshot from a story on the local news Tuesday about the prospects of bringing an NHL team to Seattle. Notice the NHL logo they chose to use.......
