NHL Offseason 2021

We'll use this for the NHL Offseason thread. Thanks buddy for kicking it off.
I saw Seattle snagged Tanev from the Pens, and have already made a trade today.
I thought they were quite frugal with their picks. I'm going to hope that's because they're saving money to sign free agents, and it's not an ownership that is trying to do this on the cheap.

I follow hockey (Go Kings) and took a look at what they did and some of the players. But, first, I love their jersey design, looks great and glad to see a team in Seattle.

Anyway, I saw a lot of criticism from the arm chair warriors about passing on Price and I think it was a smart move by Francis.

Price is oft injured, and has a huge contract. Team is just starting out and doesn't need 11 million on the books for a guy like that. Last 3 years, GAA above 2.5 and declining SV% each of the last 3. It looks like Chris Driedger will start in goal and he had a save % of over .928 and GAA near 2.00 over 40 pro games the last few years. The guy deserves to play.

Other than that, it seems like they stacked their D corps while staying young with a few solid vets peppered in and staying cap flexible. They are not looking to win a cup this year. They want to stay in the black and will look to compete in a few years, once they can develop a farm system and possibly some player acquisitions.

Yeah, I thought about you when I saw they grabbed Tanev.

Flyers traded their #14 pick in the draft, D-man Robert Hagg, and a second round pick in 2023 to Buffalo for Rasmus Ristolainen. Most Flyers fans couldn't stand Hagg, but I didn't think he was all that bad. He certainly didn't mind dishing out hits. I do think Ristolainen will be a good fit for the Flyers though.

The NHL lost another good guy, but I can't argue with his reasons.
Bruins C Krejci to play in native Czech Republic

Whoa, what? Fleury in Chicago? That'll be my team in the west now. Well, if he decides to play. Tough way to learn you've been traded, via social media. Maybe there's more to the story, but it seems like the least Las Vegas could have done was spoken to him before they made the deal.

The team explained what happened.

They had kept Fleury informed of everything they possibly could, and he knew they were in negotiations with several teams simultaneously, including with the Hawks.

But they said that somebody (they claim it couldn't have been in LasVegas so it must have been in Chicago) leaked news of the trade to the media as soon as it happened and it was all over the internet before they could contact him.

Must be nice playing by your own rules. Not the first time for Lou.

Not a Rangers fan but gotta mention Rod Gilbert died yesterday. Weird coincidence is I was just looking up his stats just last week.

I ate, drank, and slept hockey back in the mid-late 70's, and still vividly remember so many players from that era. Kind of hits me hard sometimes when I realize that was from so many decades ago and my boyhood idols and heroes are all in their 70s/80s. Or dead. :(
