NHL PLayoffs 2009

As much I hate Crosby, that was one hell of a fun series to watch. Lets hope Boston wins. Carolina is boring. A Pittsburg/Boston series would be great for the game.

In the West, same deal. Except for those in Anaheim, I would assume most would love a good old Detroit/Chicago series. This would also be great for the game.

Worst case scenario, both Anaheim and Carolina make it to the finals, and we are blessed with a series that might rival the excitement of the legendary Anaheim-New Jersey match up of 2003, or the jaw dropping finale of Edmonton-Carolina of 2006!

I don't know...If they are good enough to take out the teams in their way, they are probably pretty good. i think we can assume that two great teams will make it to the finals this year. Just because they might not be in traditional markets doesn't make them boring. It might actually be good for the game to bring in a broader audience that doesn't reside in original hockey towns. eh..that's the argument the nhl uses all the time, anyway.

that said, i still would love to see a Chicago-Pittsburgh final. anyone else channeling van damme in net? friggin sweet...

I disagree.

Look at the NBA and use it as an example. probably 90% of the time, the better team wins.

In the NHL, the rules completely change when it comes playoff time. If the same rules during the regular season applied to the playoffs, teams like Anaheim wouldn't be knocking off more talented teams like San Jose or Detroit. For every game, you don't know what you're going to get. They need to call the games constantly.

i'm going to assume you mean consistently; this is a fair objection. I also think that there isn't as much difference between the top 20 teams as you would find in other sports. I know their records show otherwise, but you also have to account for fluctuations in team confidence etc..
But the problem is, and i think this is what you are getting at, that some teams play well under the regular season format, but aren't built to be as competitive with the different style/rules of playoff hockey.

I guess we'll find out tonight if any of this relevant....

Yowsah! What a game last night. For once I was able to enjoy a relaxing evening of hockey. That felt really good to torch Ovechkin and his Caps. Varlamov finally imploded, but he sure didn't get any help from his defense last night.

I have a whole new respect for Ovechkin, but I still think he pulled a punk move on Gonchar and a couple others in the series. Oh well....no time to worry about that. We're on the conference finals again!! WooHOO!!!
