After 50 years, you figure out there is "nowhere to run, nowhere to hide". Just let your skin thicken (it happens naturally after quite a few years), put on your big boy pants and try and give as good as you get. Good luck, methinks you might need it for the next little while....

Hey, it's Mike's thread. When he feels the need to start next season's NHL thread then we'll all climb aboard.

That being said, let me take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the hockey fans here who have contributed throughout the season. Currently 108 pages and counting, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the debate and discussion you all have provided.

Tavares joins Brendan Shanahan, Scott Gomez, Scott Niedermayer, and Zach Parise as elite talents who left Lamoriello's teams as free agents.

While the B's were reported to be in the hunt for some of the big name free agents, so far, there has only been some minor tinkering.
Backup Goalie - Khudobin out; Halak in
Bottom 6 forward - Tim Schaler out; Chris Wagner in
Bottom 6 forward - Riley Nash out; Joakin Nordstorm in
Left shot Defense - John Moore in; no one out yet but maybe Krug, Kevan Miller or McQuaid will be traded. If no one is traded the B's go into next year with depth at D.
Top 6 forward - Rick Nash looks like he will retire
Bottom 6 Restricted Free Agent forward Sean Kuraly resigned for 3 years at 1.275M per year

Halak might be a slight upgrade at a slightly higher cost, but Doby was a known commodity and well-liked on the team, I wish him well.
Moore is big and fast which is nice since most of the other d-men are either big and slow or small and fast.

I doubt that Sweeney is done and I remain hopeful that the young players will continue to improve and that one or two guys who were shuttling between Boston and Providence will stick with the big club.

We're three months out from the start of the next Penguins SC run, I mean the 2018-19 season. I think it's time we move on to a new thread.
I went with Regular Season in the title as I wasn't sure how much interest there would be.
In the past we did regular season, and then a playoff thread, and then offseason.
I'm cool with one thread to cover it all.......NHL Season 2018-19
