NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Neal to Calgary. Not a bad pickup for the Flames, $5.75M/year for five years.

St Louis gave up a lot for Ryan O'Reilly, IMO. Berglund, Sobotka, and Tage PLUS a 1st rd and a 2nd rd pick. O'Reilly is a very good player but it seems like a lot for a 55-60 pt guy that's worn out his welcome in two NHL cities already.

Yeah, that s need like a lot for o’reily. STL also picked up Bozak, so they’ve deepened the Center position.
Wonder what’s up with Robby Fabbri, he’s an RFA. So much potential with that kid, it’s a shame he’s got bad knees, hope the season off last year gave him time to heal. Hate to see a promising career cut short.

Holy jumping, could you imagine if there's a headline tomorrow that read, "Barry Trotz Triggers 'Tavares-Walks' Escape Clause, Cancels Contract with Islanders"? Long Island would probably just separate from the mainland and sink itself into the Atlantic.
And that would be a problem because........?

LOL! Even better, Lamoriello does the same thing!

Bring back Garth Snow and whoever wants the coaching job. Or worse yet, hire Marc Bergevin as GM! (Naw, no fanbase deserves that. Not even Islanders' fans.) ;)

I have to say, you Toronto guys are good sports. I tried to get y'all riled up with those comments, no one bit.
If Matthews is buying in to this Tavares signing, it's going to be a fun season for Toronto fans.

You get thick skin after 50 years of being the brunt of a lot of jokes, lol

Mathews has said he’s pumped. Good players want to play with good players.

As someone said on Twitter...

Imagine being hemmed in your own end in the second period with the long change, against Matthews, Nylander and Hyman, then look up as the Leafs are changing, and Tavares, Marner and Marleau jump on.... just put the puck in your own net at that point, lol

And that doesn't even count the third line with Kadri and a host of young fast wingers, like Johnsson and Kapanen.

I’m not blinded enough to see that they don’t still need some upgrade on the defense. But there’s a coupl Marlies players that could slot in and be real players soon enough. Plus they’re going after De Haan, hoping they don’t try to over pay him though.

And about Tavares, the more interviews I hear, the more I am impressed.. this guy is intelligent and focused. He had lists of questions for every team in the interviews, and money wasn’t the issue. I listened to one interview and my first thought was, someday this guy is going to walk out of the dressing room and into a front office job.

Now the only question is, do I get a Matthews jersey, or a Tavares jersey?

of course it is also quite likely signing Trotz was an attempt at retaining Tavares--"See we are serious about winning"
