NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Yeah, 37 goals for Staal, quietly leading the Wild into the playoffs. If Parise ever gets untracked and starts earning his enormous salary, then watch out.

BTW, I'm a huge Parise fan. Years ago, there was talk about a Malkin/Parise trade with the Devils brewing. At the time, Malkin had just pulled another of his disappearing acts in the playoffs and I'd have pulled the trigger on that deal. In retrospect, it's a good thing I'm not a GM. ;)

Kapanen gets a goal, while Kessel manages only three shots.
Good to see him perform against his old team. Well, sort of old team.
Grandpa Marleau seals the deal with the assist from a former Pen. I've been a Marleau fan a long, long time (he played juniors in Seattle) so I'm happy for him.

Would still rather have Kessel than Kapanen, imagine him on the wing with Matthews...scary...stupid T.O. press running him out of town....

Goalie interference rule....

Leafs got burned for one on Monday, and burned the Pens for one tonight.

Can definitely see the lacking in the defense department for the Pens though. They are dominant in the offensive zone, but lots of neutral zone giveaways, and scrambling in their own end. Still an ability to out score their problems though. If Guentzel could have gotten a couple of his chances on net, it would be a different story.

Don't forget, we also got a 1st round pick in that trade, which we flipped to Anaheim for Freddie Andersen. It's extremely doubtful we'd be in even close to the position we've been in for the last two years without Freddie.
Kessel was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was the right decision to trade him when they did. Leafs needed a tear down, and we couldn't have done that with him here, and Bab's would have hated him, lol

And if it makes you feel better, we still have a piece of Kessel... $1.2M a year till 2022, lol

Yeah, I know all the pieces and how it worked out, but still wish they had kept Phil. (They kept Kadri, Bozak and JVR) There was far too much "square peg, meet round hole" going on with the Leafs, let's hope that is over.

It's just bearly possible that not every team that loses to CBJ is lame.
Credit where due, eh?

That's not my angle in those comments. I've been saying all year I thought this was the year CBJ takes the next step.
To put it another way.....Montreal, you are lame for not beating Columbus.
Not lame as in the quality of the team is so lame that it made a Columbus victory possible. More of lame, as in bummer.
It's a generational term for me. I use the word lame to describe events that did not turn out on my favor.

Lame, they may be, but I believe the win was earned. Perhaps they weren't lame because no matter how well they played, they could not have beaten Columbus at home at this particular time.
I guess I'm saying that it's hard not to take it as a knock on Columbus.
