NHL Season 2019-20

I lived in the Sunshine State back in 1973-74.
Back then anything south of Orlando was South Florida, at least where I lived (Ft Myers). Anything north of Orlando was called Georgia. :smug:

IDK if it's related to the sports teams, population shifts, theme parks, or sumpin' else, but the state wants to divide itself regionally more these days for identification(?) purposes. This area(roughly Jupiter, FL to Vero Beach, FL) has been called the "Treasure Coast" for quite awhile due to the finding of a lotta gold/silver/jewelry/etc. from Spanish ships sunk during hurricanes. The area around Cape Canaveral is the "Space Coast". The Jacksonville area is called the "First Coast". And so on.
Rather than calling themselves the "Tampa Lightning"-or for that matter the "St. Petersburg Rays"-they chose to make it regionally inclusive by calling each the "Tampa Bay Lightning, Rays, Buccaneers,etc."

Leafs signed Wayne Simmonds. He would have looked nice in a Pens uniform. They need some grit like him, especially with Hornqvist gone.

Can't wait to see which small & quick winger Rutherford signs to a overly long contract this off-season.

Leaving my cynicism behind, I am very curious where Pietrangelo will end up. I think as soon a he's signed it will cause a few dominoes to fall soon afterward. Supposedly Boston has their sights on him. Oliver Ekman-Larsson reportedly would okay a deal to the Bruins but that would be contingent on AP coming in or not (and Krug staying).

I was secretly hoping I'd wake to a headline about Simmonds moving across the state.
You are totally right bud, the Pens need some grit. They get it, then Rutherford runs it off. I don't understand it at all.
Teams continue to pick and dig at Crosby and Malkin game in and game out with no response from the Pens.
It was a whole different team in the days when the Pens had the likes of Eaton, Laraque, Asham, and Gary Roberts sitting on the bench, waiting. Of all those guys, I think Laraque was my favorite. He slid over that wall onto the ice and you knew someone was about to pay for a hit on Crosby or Malkin.
Edit: I realize Simmonds is a winger, but the idea of grit took me back to when the Pens protected their players on the ice.

Stars re-signed goalie Khoudobin for 3 years. He just had surgery because he was apparently having numbness in his hand during the playoffs.
As I figured, the Stars had a very long list of injuries guys were playing with that we didn't know about. Long list.
Seguin had a torn shoulder and won't even be back at the start of the new season, if it is in January.

Yeah...Hall. WTH?

I've always really liked the guy and his tenacious game, but this past year has me questioning that adoration. First of all, he was very unremarkable in a Coyotes uniform. Never provided the spark they expected from him. Then his off-season talk saying "it's all about winning" then proceeds to sign with the team who has not made the playoffs since 2011. Yeah, it's a one-year deal; he's hoping he can cash in long-term next off-season, but to cite 'winning' and then sign with Buffalo?!? :rollno:

Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had, with the exception of perhaps two seasons out of the last 36, either the best hockey player on the planet, or someone in the top three. Some seasons, they've had the two best players on the planet. They've won five Stanley Cups since drafting Mario Lemieux way back in 1984 and three this century with Sidney Crosby. Do their fans seem happy? Of course not. If you want to go to the scariest place on the internet, just do a Twitter search for "Pens" while the team is losing. Spoiled doesn't begin to describe this group, who are the Patriots fans of the NHL.

EDIT: Leafs fans were also mentioned in that linked article.

Well, the Leafs have added some grit through free agency. The challenge ahead will be to see if the fantastic four (Tavares, Marner, Matthews and Nylander) decide to buy into what it takes to win. Perhaps the 50+ years of futility tarnishes my attitude, but I don't think anything is going to change for the Leafs as what is locally known as "Blue and White disease" has taken hold again.
Believe me when I say that I would be ecstatic to be wrong, alas, I don't think so.
On another note, apparently the owner of the Vegas Knights let the cat out of the bag yesterday... and I bet Garry is none to happy about it!

Hmmm....so we now have a player who is almost a year older than his head coach, almost 7 years older than his GM, and who scored his first NHL goal (OK, it was pre-season but...) on the day Auston Matthews was born...still think it is a good thing, we have tried everything else with no success, so....53 and counting....
