NHL Season 2019-20

Doc Emrick ending career as voice of hockey.
He's been around calling games as long as I can remember. It will be odd not hearing him on games next season.

I’ll definitely miss him. He remembers EVERYTHING. He must have a photographic memory regarding statistics. From pee wee to the NHL he could site every players stats for the last 50 years off the top of his head. Or it sure seemed like it.

Similarly, Pierre Maguire can remember every player's peewee coach while name-dropping who he had dinner with last night. :vomit: (Sorry...couldn't help myself.)

Emrick has been the de facto announcer for longer than I can remember, and one of the countless things I like about him was his complete lack of homerism. I wasn't even aware for several years after he went national that he was the voice of the NJ Devils, and also worked for the Flyers, both division foes of my Penguins. Yet I never heard one negative or condescending remark ever leave his lips...total class act all the way. He should be the gold standard for ALL sports announcers. Gonna miss him.

I have to admit that I find Doc Emrick extremely irritating at game calling. I know that the vast majority of public opinion is that he's fantastic at his job, but I simply disagree.

That said, I think he's a good guy (as stated above, a class act) and he's obviously well liked by so many. I really do wish him the best.
