NHL Season 2021

Hi!

I’m actually looking forward to the series style play they have on deck. A bit of playoff style hockey during the regular season.

I think the Flyers are gonna have some fits from the Isles.

Trying to remain optimistic that the shortened season doesn’t get derailed by the pandemic.

I’ve not checked for an off-season thread. Any discussion about the owners trying to shaft the players (salary deferment and escrow)? Kudos to the NHLPA on holding team owners to the conditions they initially agreed upon.

Looks like a brutal Division for the former "Metropolitan". ...I'm wondering whether DirecTV will give us a better price this year because of the shortened season? Mine always carries over from year to year. I haven't heard anything about it from DirecTV.

Game Center Live (whatever the online or app based [roku] service is called) is still charging the same monthly but obviously didn’t charge for Oct/Nov/Dec.

I got the email that my sub was renewing on opening day.

The only big threats in the East I see are The Bruins and a well coached Isles team.

I think Pittsburgh’s and Washington’s time to shine is in the past, but I could be wrong.

Anyone else watching the World Juniors? Must see TV up here in The Great White North...couple of real blowouts yesterday...they really should have a mercy rule, 16-2 and 11-0 is just not right. But in a short tourney with goal differential being important, that is what happens.

Didn’t watch but I did see that at one point Canada had more goals than Germany had shots.

Jonathan Toews out indefinitely: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

That's a huge blow to the Hawks...might force a rebuild, something Bowman has been avoiding forever.
Wow...it never rains but it pours....already lost Nylander for most of the year, and the kid Dach broke his wrist at the World Juniors and needs surgery...not looking too good for Chicago now.

Still shaking my head at the Chara deal. Washington...where over-the-hill defensemen are always in demand.

Then there's the Yotes. Seemingly turning the corner and eking into the playoffs despite Phil Kessel's minor contributions. Then they trade away a heart and soul leader in Derek Stepan, then turn around and sign Derick Brassard. (Brassard's fifth team in the past few years.)

DirecTV Center Ice...got my email saying auto-renewal in January but I might actually cancel this year. I am pessimistic about the league keeping the proposed 56-game schedule with all that's going on and what might happen with Covid restrictions in a month or two. Didn't get any reduced rate or credit for last year's 3/4 of a season, and according to DirecTV the price isn't reflecting a partial season reduction this year either. Hoping I'm wrong but too many variables in the mix.

I was hearing that retirement was on the table for Chara. I’m a little flummoxed. He spent so much time in Boston (he started his Career on the Isle and played a few seasons for the Sens); I figured he’d retire there than try to eek out one more year on an over the hill deal.

And couldn’t a team from a different division have signed him?

Wouldn't it have been more fitting if he signed with Montreal? :roflmao:
Problem is he wouldn't been playing against the Bruins this season due to the geographical divisions and restrictions.

(FWIW, I just got off the phone with DirecTV, cancelling my Center Ice subscription. Although the lady spoke perfect English, she had no idea what Center Ice was, and I spent several minutes explaining it, spelling it out for her, and finally said, "NHL Hockey package" before she understood what I was saying. And as a typical DirecTV CSR, she tried to sell me several movie tier packages before it was all over. I know that's what they're trained to do but that gets old fast. :rollno: )

There is no problem so vexing, that it cant be fixed by upgrading your tier package (and increasing your bill).
