NHL Season 2021

Flyers news.

They are giving former first round pick defenseman and human horse Samual Morin a look on the LW. Dude’s 6 foot 7.

Drafted in 2013 he was beginning to look like a bust due to injuries and slow development. He’s only played like 10 (?) games at the NHL level.

I’m expecting to see more of a playoff atmosphere with the series style play the league has in store. Having a more physical presence isn’t exactly a bad thing.

I also think we will see more man games last due to injuries this season than normal so increased depth at any position is smart thinking.

Glad to see some out of the box thinking from the Flyers organization.

short story long:

I used to be a Nordiques fan , woke up at night to hate Canadiens , so when they move to Denver , I took Ottawa as my team.
25 five years (and 2 cups) later , my hatred kinda disappear for the Canadiens.

So for me it's Sens , then Canadiens with a piece of my heart to Denver.

Who’s a fan of what team?
I’m a Canucks, Avs, and Pens fan but mostly know stuff about the Canucks.
Flyers fan here. Not a popular position here on TB, but there ARE a few of us. warwick.hoy is one, along with several others. Mike (MJ5150) is a chronic hater of all things Flyers-related... :D

Not sure what I think of the Morin move to LW. Flyers are pretty deep at LW. Now if he played RW, that might make more sense...

Family is from the Philly area but they aren’t really sports fans. I’m Flyers all the way (been a fan since the Line of Doom days) but I do like how the Avs have been looking the past few seasons.

Living in E.Washington. I’m unsure if I’ll hop on the Kraken bandwagon. That name is awful (I know, it’s yesterday’s news). Fit for a bush league or XFL team.

Call me a purist but I think Seattle has a rich enough hockey tradition that they could have honored a historical franchise like the Metropolitans.

I also don’t know if 32 teams is good for the league and the expansion draft is scary.

It is good to see you in this thread again @warwick.hoy. I have always appreciated your comments and knowledge of the game.
Thank you for joining us again.

-Mike

Thanks Mike. Good to be back and glad to see ya’ll again, Can’t promise I’ll be around to intensely. I’m a 41 year old college student (psych major) which has been dominating my life.

I’m just happy to see Nolan Patrick skating with team again.

You are correct about Flyers depth on the left. If anything Morin takes over that position for the Phantoms and is available as a call up if injuries become an issue.

Also has to be mentioned that a LW assignment is less wear and tear on those injuries Morin has suffered than playing defense.

If he’s a bust he’s a bust; but putting him in a positioning to potentially resurrect a career and turn into a feel good story is a move I appreciate from the Flyers.

Now if we can just get Ghost playing like he did in his rookie year.

Yeah, I'd love to see him (Morin) have some success. He's really been snakebitten with injuries. I hope it does work out.

As for Patrick, I agree - it's great to see him participating again. I am concerned though that he doesn't want to talk about how he's doing with the migraines.

Ghost is a mystery to me. He was outstanding his rookie year. I'm not really understanding why so many people want to give up on him. Even Provorov had a bit of a drop-off that one year.

Another mystery to me was Philippe Myers. He went un-drafted; yet looks to me to have a ton of potential. Huge upside (no pun intended - he is huge!). He and Sanheim make a formidable D-pairing.

The Leafs had Jumbo Joe skating on a line with Matthews and Mariner at the teams first full skate yesterday. Interesting combo!
Fishheadjoe
PS... USA vs Canada in the world junior championship, tonight! I don't know what happens south of the border re the Juniors, but here in the Great White North, this tourney is considered must watch TV, with Xmas dinner taking a back seat to any Canadian game played!
Go Canada Go!

Anyone have any preseason predictions for the regular season?

I have BOS taking the East, TB the Central.

A toss up between the VGK and the AVS for the West and the Canadian division is a....*shrugs* The Maple Leafs finally stop being a joke? Jumbo Joe finally gets a cup?

I’ve been in the camp of not giving up on Ghost but we’ve been at this for two seasons now and the Flyers fan base is supremely impatient. I think we all have some Hackstol PTSD still.

I think Ghost can get back on track but I wouldn’t be surprised if a change of scenery is what kickstarts that. I don’t think he carries much value on the trade market right now so might as well dig in and try to work with the guy.

Myers was an excellent pickup by Hextall. I don’t think Myers has hit his ceiling yet (pun intended). I’m also flummoxed on how the guy went undrafted. I think the next Jersey I buy will be a Myers Home Jersey.

That extended bridge deal he signed is very team friendly but might come back to haunt the Flyers. He keeps it up he’s gonna get paid in 3 years.
