NHL Season 2022-23

Ottawa makes the playoffs, Detroit and Buffalo will knock on the door but ultimately fall short of the postseason.

Not sure Boston can overcome their injuries at the start of the season to contend.

Pens can get to the playoffs but once again, their goalie issues will be the determining factor if they advance.

Toronto will quickly realize choosing Matt Murray over Jack Campbell was perhaps not such a good decision.

Calgary will actually be a better team this year than last season, despite their stars departing.

And the Coyotes will have trouble selling out their 5000-seat college arena. My son looked into the tickets for the Penguins' visit, and they are $350-$450 apiece. No thanks. Cheaper to drive to Anaheim or Vegas and see them play there.

The Blackhawks aren't likely to even make the playoffs this season so I'm planning to be in general spectator mode and just enjoy watching professional hockey, no matter who's playing.

Hopefully there won't be any interruptions to regular schedules due to any of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse riding around like the past 2 years (Pestilence, we're looking at you).

"What are we thinking...?" Well, I'm thinking your your premise might be flawed. The general consensus seems to be that my Flyers ARE already pretty much eliminated from Cup contention... :(:D

Another sucky year coming up. Fire Chuck Fletcher...

@dwm74 are you kidding me on those ticket prices? I used to fly down for a break from the PNW cold and catch a Coyotes game before the pandemic, but those ticket prices are more than the plane ticket.

Looking at the website, single tickets range from $175 to $695.

^ if those numbers shock you, take a look at what the Leafs charge for ducats!
I have a friend with Season Tickets for the leafs. Seats are located in the lower bowl, but up near the top. He's been dropping over $30k per year for a pair season tickets. Add to that, as a season ticket holder, he is also required to purchased the entire play-off schedule, regardless of how far the Leafs go or even if they make the playoffs! Any funds left over from the play offs, will be applied to the purchased of tickets next season's tickets.
Buddy has been dropping close to $40k or more every year! With that said, good luck getting tickets to just about any Leafs game... and the waiting list for seasons tickets is about 10-20 years long!

Chara, Subban, and Yandle all retire today. Not surprised by Big Z and Yandle, but Subban is only 33 and although he's declined a lot lately, I really thought he'd latch on with a decent team. Right-handed defensemen are currently being sought after by a few teams (Montreal, for example). That would have been quite a reunion.

Nothing to do with the NHL per se, but SOMEWHAT NHL related. Today is National Sons Day. I found this old pic (Christmas, circa 1984) of my sons Andy (in red) and Josh (in gray). Along with some help from mama, they got me this NHL game. I've always loved those things and got a lot of enjoyment playing it over the years... (Poor quality because it wouldn't let me post the scanned pic. So I had to take a pic of the scanned pic...)

Wow, that brings back memories. I have a picture that looks just like that, taken on Christmas, with my dad and my brother and me, each of us grinning our face off* in anticipation of many years to come of playing table hockey.

I wanted to buy my grandkids a tabletop hockey game for Christmas last year, but with all the supply line shortages, they simply weren't available. I think used ones were for sale on ebay for $200 or more.





* Hah, I said "face off".

Yeah, but let's look at the system he's been handcuffed by the past couple of years. I love Trotz as a coach but his system doesn't allow players like Barzal to have much free reign to create. I'm guessing the Isles are banking on a return to form from his rookie year (85 pts) before Trotz.

I agree the $9.15M AAV seems high, about a million above his market value IMO, but hey, it's Lamoriello, nobody can figure out what his thought process is.
