I'd read that the team and him worked out an exit deal. No specifics, but he'll likely not get the full two years salary since it appears to be a mutual dissolution of the contract.

At first, after reading Jenner's and Gaudreau's take on what happened, I felt Babcock's actions were being blown out of context. But then I imagined my boss wanting to go through my phone, and now wonder what the heck he was thinking?

Eh, it's a way to get to know folks. Back in the day, us old guys would open our wallet and pull out a picture of our spouse, kids, etc when getting to know someone. Today, lots of folks whip out their phone and start showing you pictures of what they ate, where they went that day, what they saw along the way, yadda yadda without thinking twice. Many others display details of their lives all over social media in pictures and videos multiple times per day.
For these kids to come along and cry about an invasion of privacy is a load of crap. They shoulda fired all those whiny kids.
Further, Babcock wasn't trying to go through anyone's phone. He was getting to know his players better, perhaps trying to bridge that gap between old school and new school by asking to guys to show some pics of friends, family, etc.

Well, i heard that he had downloaded the pics to his computer and had them running in his office on his big screen TV for all to see. To my mind only, that's more than a bit much!

This news made me sad: ESPN's Melrose has Parkinson's disease, retiring.
I went back and forth on how I felt about him over the years in his different roles, but this story breaks my heart.

Tonight's the big debut of Connor Bedard, facing off against none other than his idol, Sidney Crosby.

I predict Bedard will hit 40 goals this year, but not sure if his linemates are good enough finishers to get him 60 assists, so he may fall short of 100 pts. At least for this year, anyway.

There was a special section of the Seattle Times about the Kraken this week. I haven't got used to the idea of paying attention to hockey yet. It will seep in. Funny thing is that I lived in a house with four other guys my senior year of college. One was the captain of the hockey team and is now coaching hockey. I still never managed to develop much of an interest in it. Maybe it's time to learn a new trick.

One thing @Gaolee that I think will pique your NHL interest is the fact that there's a handful of Ivy League players in the NHL.

There you go, the Pens pick up right where they left off last season. Second in the league in losing games when they lead in the third, did it again tonight.
A solid 2-0 lead and as usual they try to run away and hide. Chicago, along with Pen killer Perry, weren't having any of that and blew four goals past the Pens. Too bad I can't say I'm surprised.

Chicago did the right thing and kept playing. They sure earned that win trait and square.

Jarry wasn't the sole reason the game got away but he certainly didn't look like too sharp when he needed to be, while Mrazek absolutely stole the game at the other end.

Same old story. Pens have a way of making average/journeyman goaltenders look like Vezina Trophy winners on any given night.

In carefully watching the replays, I didn't see anything that Jarry could have done differently to stop any of the three goals that went by him.

But, Mrazek did step up and was brilliant in the 3rd period, after letting in that awful 2nd Pens goal. He was waaaaaay out of position on that one.

I watched most of the Hawks game last night, with an eye on Bedard. To me, he looks a lot like Marner of Toronto, but with a wicked shot!
Hawks fans are going to love this kid!

Decent games yesterday.
I stayed up way too late to watch the Kraken play the Knights.
Thursday (when the season really starts) can't come quickly enough. I'm hoping to see the Wings get off to a good start.

Malkin is already in his late season pouty/apathetic/childish/uninterested/'when is this going to be over?' mode.
He was an amazing hockey player, but he is past his shelf life. He's only on the roster now because of how he used to play, and no one wants to be the coach or GM who trades Malkin.

What's up boys? I'm glad hockey's back but man what a let down by the Pens Tuesday. All that roster turn over and picking up exactly where they left off last season. I watched Toronto Montreal last night. High scoring affair and entertaining at least. I'm a big Reavo fan so I may watch more than 1 Leaf game this year. LOL.
