NHL Season 2024-25

Geez...is this the most anti-climactic July 1 in NHL history? All the big names have already been signed, or the big sign-and-trades were done. By the time official Free Agency began today, not many big names left. All three Florida guys re-signed, Boeser, Provorov, and a few others ended up staying with their teams, and a few minor deals. As of this writing, Nikolai Ehlers is the biggest name still out there.
How does Tanner Jeannot keep getting these contracts? Boston inks him to a five-year deal @ $3.4/yr. Way overpaid (again) in both money and term for a guy who averaged about 15 pts/yr over the past three seasons.
Kings are taking the over-the-hill approach...inking Corey Perry, Brian Dumoulin, and Cody Ceci. I guess they're banking on experience over youth, but geez, none of those guys were known for their footspeed when they were young, let alone now approaching the twilights of their respective careers. They might pass Pittsburgh as the oldest team in the league.
Then there's the Canucks, who now have $13M tied up in goaltenders the next three years in Demko and Lankinen.
I expect they'll be a few trades in the next couple of days, as those teams who struck out in FA will still be looking to add via trades. Hopefully it will add some interest to the silly season.

Still a lot of movement though. The remainder of the Rantanen fallout still being felt. Colorado doesn't sign the trade deadline players, Dallas loses Granlund
Ehlers signed with the Canes. That's a pretty big hole to fill for Winnipeg

A solid argument for best 87 of all time, but doubtless the best of all the Star Wars movies. I can confidently say that without having even seen the prequels.

IIRC, the same two teams met in game #1 last season with the Rangers walloping the Pens 6-0 in their building. That was my first clue it was going to be a long season. Expectations for this upcoming season haven't exactly improved, either. And they likely still won't get McKenna.
