I cannot think of the last time I ordered something from that site and didn't have a problem with it. They seem to be reacting to amazon, but not well. Amazon seems to have figured it out, unlike walmart.

Yep. Walmart will eventually drive the prices down, too, if they can.

The problem is demand. Musicians, as we all know from this forum, are a fickle lot. And it's hard to drive down prices on gear that Walmart can't purchase in bulk, at a steep discount, and then sell off quickly. Probably won't work in the bass guitar world. Might work in the guitar world, though.

Right now, Amazon gets it right. But give Walmart enough time...

I paid $800 tax included, for a new fretted 4 HH Bongo with case at G.C.. I thought Wally World would be able to do better than $1500.

You'd be shocked at the MI gear Wal Mart lists online. Of course, all the music gear is listed under Toys. If that doesn't tell you something about US society's perception of musicians, nothing will.

  8. Great.. Thanks! Now Walmart thinks I'm in the market for a Bongo bass from them and has kindly populated every available internet advertising space in my browser with an ad for it!

  9. That'd be great if Wal Mart carried gear. Because the town where I live doesn't have a music store. But, you can sure bet your ass there's a friggin' Wal Mart here. The closest music store to me is an hour away. That's friggin' sad.

    Walmart is taking on Amazon.

I really hope that they fail... but having known some folks who have worked for Amazon, it's hard to say which company is more nasty.

Walmart's new slogan should be "More For More". Who in the hell is going to buy a $1600 bass from them?

I purchased my $800 Bongo at a G.C. in Warwick R.I. about 7 or 8 years ago. Just one of those blow out sales. They had an AM Deluxe fretted 4 J right next to the Bongo for an even better price but, I already had one so, I grabbed the Bongo.

So, here we don't even have any music stores and need to order everything off the internet from a different country, and you guys have Bongos in Wallmart?

Depends on where you live, the US is more diverse then it gets credit for. It's the decline of society that's lowering it's perception of most things imo?

True, if you've been around in the US you know this. It's an interesting example of corporate herd mentality, most likely. ;)
