Nicest neck you've ever played

I am fortunate to own the best, most comfortable neck I have ever played, and I have literally held thousands of basses of all types, including famous ones.

My '72 P neck...the back is stripped and was oiled years ago...

Now, is is embedded with thousands of hours of blood, sweat and tears.

Many famous bass players played this neck when I was with SWR...A few tried to buy it from me.

But it is mine...my precious....

It's a tough call...

But I have to go with the Satin-finish variety Gibson T-bird neck. So smooth and fast, I almost forget my hands move when I play! I never thought finish would make such a huge difference to my speed, but in general I find the low-friction varieties (Satin, MM Gunstock finish) are orders of magnitude more playable than their hi-gloss counterparts.

Easy one for me this, mid 80's Yamaha BB3000S. It was silky smooth, fast as you like, and I was a total idiot for selling the bass. Definately one I wish I still had.

Surprisingly, the neck on an Epi Thunderbird I had recently was also, very nice indeed.

From the current crop, I guess the Ibanez K5 is my favourite.

My Sei "melt" series 2 singlecut 4 (the first series 2 I believe). Staggering neck. A friend played it and agreed it was the best he'd ever played. In fact everyone who touches it agrees about the neck.

Have to say that the Alembic Brown Basses are also out of this world though.

The neck on the Lakland Jerry Scheff I just got is really nice. I dig the 1 5/8" profile.. nice compromise between a J and a P. I'd say it's worked its way into third place on my "nicest neck" list. Reverends are still #1, followed by the Dingwall Super P/J that continues to haunt my dreams..

played lots of jazz basses warwicks stingrays ..etc. None of them comes close to my long gone old bass , the best neck I have seen in my 18 years of playing ...G&L Climax bass
the tone on the otherside was so so ..

either a reverend rumblefish i used to have or a peavey USA millennium 5 i used to have. satin finish, and a pauo ferro fretboard. it was yummy.

My "61 Jazz is without a doubt the fastest neck I've ever played. Virtually any player that's played it says it practically plays itself. I also love the early seventies flat-backed maple p-bass necks. They were extremely stable and easy to get a really nice set up on.
