Nick O'Malley Bass Tone

Hey guys. Just wondering how Nick O'Malley (Arctic Monkeys) gets his awesome sounding bass tone, especially on the Suck It and See album. If you could give me the approximate amp settings that would be great. Cheers

I think he uses a Fender P bass and Ampeg SVT.

He also uses a Rickenbacker 3001 on occasion. They fall firmly between the classic P-bass tone & the classic Rickenbacker 4001 tone.

A p-bas and an Ampeg SVT makes that sound. What equipment do u have?

I have a cheapy P bass and a Line 6 LD15

Then u can emulate his rig. Choose a Ampeg model on ur amp and try messing with the controls I can bet he usrs a scooped spynd. Turn up bass and treble and turn down mid. Also dial in some grit with the gain nob

Actually, watching a lot of Arctic Monkey Videos, I think most of his tone comes from cranking his Bassman 100 to the sweet spot and using his SVT some of the clean. He also has a Big Muff, which I believe in the song "The Jeweller's Hand" off Humbug.
