Levi Seacer Jr played bass on Alphabet Street (killer bass track by the way)

but i dig Prince's bass playing a lot (for instance, his little duet with Larry on the Rave un2 The Year 2000 concert is ultra funky)
nobody mentioned Michael Henderson, Joseph Lucky Scott and JB's bassists Bernard Odum and Charles Sherrell

James Jamerson period. He played a "Funk Machine" and was a member of the Funk Brothers of Motown. He has influenced a ton of players from McCartney to Jaco to JPJ.

They called their style of locking together the "dot-dash" system. I actually don't remember Clark being quite so busy on Herbie's albums. He seems a little more at pains to show off rolls, diddles, etc., etc., than on something like "Thrust".

Nice to see a best "Funk" player for a change! I don't have anything to add but need to learn. Subb'd
80 percent of these players are not true funk. they may be killer players, but not funk. or they may be 'funky'. funk to me is funkadelic 70- 76, the meters, jb until about 75, sly til about 78, etc. and most of those players were not really technicians. just my thoughts.
