Before polishing your barb too much, yes CDs have fallen to be more or less equal with vinyl, but vinyl's numbers have never come anywhere near what CDs were at 5 years ago. Both are being replaced by digital formats.
To tie this back to the OP, vinyl, like Fender, is an anachronistic beast that refuses to die, not because of its own merits, but because of people's clinging to a mythologized past.
